Assistant Project Manager in Belfast, Northern Ireland, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom

Assistant Project Manager

I had a think about the things that you’d like to know about this job before applying. I also had a chat with somebody that I recruited into an APM role with this business 2.5 years ago and got their opinion.

What will I get paid?

£30,000 - £40,000

Any other benefits?

27 days holiday + 12 stats

Matched pension up to 7.5%

What will I work on?

You’ll work on varying sized rail projects from £300k - £40M+ both permanent way and S+T.

Initially, you’ll assist Project Managers on larger projects and eventually, you’ll work your way through to managing your own smaller projects.

You’ll get involved with projects from tender, through design & delivery. You’ll pick up key NEC experience along with the corporate governance of contracts.

Quote:

“I was exposed to so much early on, from tenders to design to ordering plant & project delivery. It’s a very broad role. My progression plan was mapped out and I was able to take the lead on some smaller projects in my first year. I then progressed into a PM role where I am now managing larger projects from start to finish. The team is a relatively new, self-sufficient team and we’re performing well for the client”

What does progression look like?

It took less than 18 months for my last APM recruit to progress into a PM role. It took a lot of hard work, dedication & flexibility but there is no doubt that progression to Project Manager is achievable.

What do I need?

You’ll have an engineering or construction-related degree (other degrees will be considered) and some experience with rail or NEC contracts would be ideal (although not a deal breaker if you don’t have it). More importantly, you’ll have a “can do” attitude, be hard working with an analytical & methodical approach to problem-solving.
