The location is flexible - The role can be split between home working, and working from our offices in either Wigan (Greater Manchester) or Glastonbury (Somerset). Client meetings are currently held on line but typically held in Birmingham and Swindon once lockdown measures eventually ease.

My client is a long established and highly successful civil engineering contractor specialising in railway engineering, they are a primary contractor for Network Rail delivering a diverse range of projects from earthworks and embankment stabilisation schemes to major structural projects such as footbridge replacements and bridge refurbishments.
To be suitable for the position you must have;
- Minimum of 7 years' experience in design or construction role
- Clear and effective communication skills
- Excellent organisational skills are essential
- Minimum HNC level education in Engineering or Construction
- Preferably working towards IEng or CEng MICE
- Railway Safety Qualification - PTS
Role;
As a Project Manager (Design) you will be responsible for the coordination of permanent and temporary works design and the interface with the construction teams. Working on framework contracts on the NW&C and Western Routes for our client Network Rail, projects will include a wide variety of design and build schemes including structures, earthworks and drainage disciplines.
Working with our Engineering Team, you will take responsibility for the day-to-day management and coordination of technical and engineering activities on the CAM contract. Reviewing and approving design submissions, liaising with design consultants and our in-house delivery teams, and contributing to monthly meetings with our client's project team to progress design projects to a successful conclusion.
A key function of the role will be reviewing sub-contract designer's deliverables to ensure designs fulfil the clients remit and comply with the standards and regulations applicable to the contract, considering constructability, third party interfaces and Safe by Design principles. Knowledge of railway standards and demonstrable experience delivering projects in a rail environment is essential. Ideally the candidate will have been approved in CRE or CEM roles previously, and hold a relevant engineering qualification.
The role will provide exposure to all kinds of engineering problems on the railway infrastructure, where you will play a key role in developing renewals and maintenance solutions for bridges, culverts, earthworks, platforms, station buildings and much more.
