CAF is one of the international market leaders in the design, manufacture, maintenance and supply of vehicles, equipment and components for rail systems with a significant presence around the world. We have been present in the UK market for more than a decade and now we are expanding exponentially.
CAF is currently delivering six vehicle projects into the UK for four different train operating companies and has a healthy pipeline going forward. Each of these projects requires to be authorised into service by the Office of Rail and Road, in accordance with the Railway Interoperability Regulations 2011, in addition to this compatibility with Network Rail infrastructure has to be demonstrated before delivery, testing and service operation can begin. This is a key role to ensure that these activities are undertaken on time.
The Project Approvals & Safety Manager will be responsible for the management, control and coordination of all approvals related activities, strategies, systems and deliverables for CAF projects in the UK. The role will be to ensure that all the necessary approvals are gained and safety is demonstrated to ensure the timely introduction into service of CAF fleets onto the UK railway; as such the role is pivotal to the success of these projects and to CAF.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES
· Supporting the UK Approvals Manager in the delivery of all required approvals and authorisations to permit the entry into service of CAF fleets in the UK.
· Establishing and managing systems to support the planning, coordination and monitoring of all approvals requirements, submissions and activities for CAF’s contracts in the UK
· Liaising with the various certifying, assessment and authorising bodies in the UK
· Coordinating with the Approvals Project Manager(s) and Project Safety Managers in Spain.
· Providing Approvals & Safety related input into UK tenders and bids.
· Coordination of submissions to the Safety Assessment body and providing support in resolving issues arising.
· Providing input to CSM deliverables, where required, to support acceptance in the UK.
· Preparation of the Project(s)Compatibility File
· Coordination of Compatibility Workstreams and Steering Groups in conjunction with Network Rail and the Train Operator.
REQUIREMENTS
· REQUIRED ACADEMIC SKILLS: Relevant Degree or Equivalent
· REQUIRED PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE: 5 years’ experience of delivery in a multi-discipline project environment.
· REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE:
Good working knowledge of railway (or similar) approvals, authorisation, compliance and conformance processes.
Good understanding of Engineering Safety Management, risk assessment principles and Common Safety Methods.
Project Management and coordination skills. Ability to liaise with and influence stakeholders at all levels.
· LANGUAGES: English, Spanish not required though an advantage.
OTHERS:
Flexibility to travel regularly in the UK and available to travel occasionally to the headquarters in Spain or other locations.
