The Public Transport Authority of Western Australia (PTA), is an innovative Government Agency and a highly sought-after employer offering once in a lifetime opportunities to work on major rail infrastructure projects. In addition to maintaining the existing network the Government has recently commenced a major program of rail projects named METRONET with the aim of updating & extending the Perth metropolitan rail network and is looking for experienced rail engineers across a number of disciplines to help deliver these exciting phases of work

We are looking to hear from Principal Structural Engineers interested in emigrating to Australia or relocating interstate to Perth. This position manages the structural aspects of medium to significant risk projects through the design, building, and maintenance phases of large infrastructure projects on the Public Transport network.

Core duties and responsibilities

Engineering

• Provides technical and project management skills for the structural aspects of major infrastructure projects and medium to significant risk multidisciplinary projects, certifies that design and specifications of these projects meets with Public Transport Authority (PTA) operational requirements and standards.
• Where required, acts as Project Engineer to satisfy Engineering Assurance requirements.
• Provides detailed recommendations on amendments to the Code of Practice and technical standards.
• Maintains a detailed knowledge of current technical and industry specific methods relevant to the construction of structural installations for railway, station and tunnel infrastructure.

Technical

• Provides designs, feasibility plans, quantities and cost estimates and financial justifications for large infrastructure transport network projects.
• Ensures projects comply with Railway Safety Management and standards.
• Provides specialist advice on significant project and contract management issues.
• Develops and maintains appropriate design standards and ensures advantage is taken of appropriate technology

Project Management

• Manages medium to significant risk public transport network projects to facilitate delivery, including developing project plans.
• Provides specialist advice on significant project and contract management issues.
• Provides designs, plans, quantities and cost estimates and financial justifications for medium to significant risk public transport network projects
• Manages contracts and consultants to ensure that projects are completed to approved scope, budget, time and quality

To be suitable for this role you will ideally have:

• Relevant professional qualifications that would satisfy the admission requirement for Professional membership of the Institution of Engineers Australia.
• Proven experience in planning, design and construction of infrastructure such that agreed outcomes are achieved.
• Proven experience in design, construction and maintenance of electrical engineering systems in a public transport environment, mainly structural with applications across railway infrastructure, stations and tunnels
• Highly developed project and contract management skill.
