Job Overview:
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Telecoms Projects Engineer to join our team in the rail sector. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in the design, installation, testing, and maintenance of telecoms systems within railway infrastructure projects. As a Telecoms Projects Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring the successful delivery of telecoms-related components within rail projects, working closely with project managers, contractors, and other engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities:
Project Delivery: Lead and manage telecoms systems engineering aspects of rail projects, ensuring timely delivery within budget and to the required quality standards.
Design & Engineering: Oversee the design, specification, and installation of telecoms systems including signaling, communication networks, CCTV, PA systems, and data transmission systems in the rail environment.
Site Management: Supervise and coordinate site activities, including contractor management and ensuring adherence to safety protocols, regulatory standards, and project specifications.
Quality Assurance & Compliance: Ensure all telecoms systems and works comply with relevant rail industry standards, safety regulations, and customer requirements (e.g., Network Rail standards).
System Integration: Manage integration of telecoms systems with other railway infrastructure, such as signaling, control rooms, and trackside equipment.
Testing & Commissioning: Lead the testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting of telecoms systems to ensure they are fully operational and meet project specifications.
Project Reporting: Provide regular updates to project managers, stakeholders, and clients, ensuring clear communication of progress, risks, and issues.
Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with internal teams, external vendors, subcontractors, and clients to ensure effective collaboration and timely problem resolution.
Risk Management: Identify and mitigate risks related to telecoms systems, including technical challenges, safety concerns, and project delays.
Documentation & Reporting: Ensure that all project documentation is accurately prepared, including design reports, risk assessments, test plans, and as-built documentation.
Required Skills & Experience:
Education: Degree or equivalent qualification in Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
Experience: Minimum of X years experience in telecoms engineering, preferably within the rail sector or a similar regulated industry (e.g., transportation, utilities).
Knowledge: Strong understanding of telecoms systems for rail applications, including radio systems, signaling systems, CCTV, PA, IP networks, and data transmission.

Technical Skills:
Knowledge of relevant standards, including insert specific rail standards such as Network Rail, TSI (Technical Specifications for Interoperability), or similar.
Proficiency in telecoms system design, installation, and testing procedures.
Familiarity with project management tools and methodologies (e.g., MS Project, Primavera).
Familiarity with safety regulations and working in a high-risk environment.
Certifications: Relevant certifications (e.g., IRSE Telecoms Engineering License, SMSTS, PTS) are highly desirable.
Project Management: Experience managing small-to-medium telecoms projects, including planning, coordination, and budgeting.
Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to liaise with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Problem-Solving: Proactive approach to identifying and resolving technical and operational issues.
Teamwork: Ability to work well in a collaborative team environment and manage relationships with a variety of stakeholders.
Desirable Skills:
Previous experience with major rail projects (e.g., HS2, Crossrail, or regional rail upgrades).
Familiarity with software tools for network design, such as AutoCAD, Bentley Systems, or similar.
Experience with public sector procurement and rail project compliance.
Understanding of the operational aspects of telecoms in rail, including train control, maintenance of way, and passenger services.
