At £15bn Crossrail is the largest construction project in Eurpoe. The Crossrail C660 Communication & Control contract represents a complex and extremely high profile contract for Siemens.
Communications & Control (C&C) Systems works are located within the tunnels, shafts, stations and portals within the Central Section and also include key control systems within the control centres. This includes interfaces to NR, LUL and DLR.
The following systems are collectively the C&C Systems:
* Central Management System (CMS)
* Traction Power Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA)
* Station Management System/Station SCADA Network
* Customer Information System (CIS)
* Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) System/Driver Only Operation (DOO) CCTV
* Public Address/Voice Alarm (PA/VA) System
* Telephony System
* Crossrail Data Network/Optical Fibre Network
* Private Mobile Radio (PMR) Radiating Infrastructure
* GSM-R/Airwave/LFEPA Ch5 Radio Systems
* Public Cellular Radio Radiating Infrastructure
Reporting to the Project Director, the Crossrail C660 Project Engineering Manager leads and directs the project engineering and design team to deliver ll Engineering Design aspects of the Crossrail C660 project within agreed timescales and budgeted costs, and is accountable for its contribution to overall project performance.
What are my Responsibilities?
Lead and manage all Crossrail C660 Engineering Design activity.
Communicate the goals and objectives of the project Engineering Design team to project engineering staff.
Plan, co-ordinate and provide functional management for project Engineering Design staff.
Ensure that all project Engineering Design activity is delivered within agreed timescales and budgeted costs.
Provide estimates for project Engineering Design activity with regard to engineering resources, plans, technology, risk and process.
Ensure the appropriate standards, processes, procedures, and tools are applied throughout the project Engineering Design life cycle to comply with both Siemens and Crossrail requirements.
Identify and implement improvements in the project Engineering Design procedures and processes to support the project stretch targets.
Ensure all project Engineering Design work is delivered in accordance with Siemens Mobility Safety and Quality procedures and meets all applicable legislative, safety and customer requirements.
Identifying the key resources and competencies required within the project Engineering Design team and communicate these requirements to the relevant resource managers.
Ensure that relevant technological developments are monitored and where appropriate utilised within the project Engineering Design team.
Encourage creativity and innovation within the project Engineering Design team.
Maintain and develop good relationships with internal and external customers, industry associations, supplier, partners and contractors. In particular, Crossrail / key stakeholders (NR / DLR / LUL / RfL / external regulators), other Crossrail contractors / sub-contractors.
Mange the engineering design interfaces to other systems and engineering safety management process
Maintain and develop own professional competence and encourage and assist persons working under their supervision similarly.
What experience do I need to apply for this role?
Degree or equivalent in a relevant subject.
Chartered Engineer or equivalent status.
An engineering background with proven success leading a team of engineers to design and deliver complex systems projects.

Experience and knowledge of engineering processes at all stages of the engineering lifecycle.
Proven experience providing estimates for engineering projects and tenders with regard to resources, plans, technology, risk and process.
Proven experience in the use of requirements management tools.
Proven experience of integrating third party sub-systems into complete solutions.
Strong business and financial understanding and appreciation of contractual and commercial requirements associated with an engineering business.
Good knowledge of IT systems and software, especially Microsoft Office and Project.
Excellent interpersonal, presentation and communication skills.
Excellent organisational, time management and problem solving skills.
Full UK Driving licence.
Previous experience of sub-contractor and supplier management desirable.
