Project Engineering Manager in Reading, Berkshire, United Kingdom
Project Engineering Manager
Salary: £65-70,000
Location: Reading
Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Control and Automation (MEICA) installations predominate when delivering asset improvements in the water sector. The Project Engineering Manager role is therefore a key position within our Thames framework team.
You will put in place and then maintain the arrangements and resources that will deliver exceptional MEICA performance across multiple projects.
In addition to the normal attributes of a successful leader this role will require determination and doggedness as you will be changing for the better the way in which many people currently work embedding production line thinking and our "offsite first" philosophy.
You will initially work with the Production Team and other subject experts to formulate a detailed and timed implementation plant which will be regularly updated and will provide the basis for performance monitoring.
The Role
- Project Management: Work closely with our Project Managers to lead our technical teams in delivering all MEICA works cost-efficiently and in accordance with the contract programme and applicable standards and specifications.
- Processes and Procedures: Put in place the processes and procedures that will facilitate exceptional MEICA delivery performance.
- Design Collaboration: Strong collaborative approach to integrate our own and supply chain expertise with our designers (Arcadis) expertise to maximise the opportunities for offsite manufacturing. Drive value engineering and programme opportunities by early collaboration with our supply chain and designers.
- Supply Chain: Fully engage with the supply chain to assess and develop their capabilities so that they positively contribute to our delivery capability and capacity. Undertake audits and inspections of offsite facilities to ensure compliance with Thames Water and our clients specified requirements.
- Digital Engineering: Utilise our digital tools and expertise on each project to integrate our off site and on-site delivery approach, such as using fully integrated BIM models for clash detection and checking the feasibility of and initiating modular construction. Ensure the flow of all digital asset information to/from 3D models.
- Quality Assurance: Enforcement and application of our Quality Assurance system and monitoring compliance.
- Develop Sustainable Solutions: Display a sound knowledge of sustainable construction solutions and manage engineering activities that contribute to sustainable development.
- Technical Team Management: Ensure that sufficient and competent MEICA resource is allocated to each project. Manage the planning and organisation of tasks, people and resources maximising efficiently and improving wellbeing.
- Capacity and Competence: Guide and coordinate the project engineering teams. Put in place the appropriate training, mentoring and coaching arrangements to ensure that production teams (including Arcadis and Strategic Suppliers) have the appropriate technical skills and competence and exhibit the right culture and behaviours to deliver exceptional programme and quality performance.
- Culture: Fully embrace our clients Construction's and Thames Water's cultural vision, consistently demonstrating collaborative behaviours.
About You
- Technically strong and specification-oriented leader who can co-ordinate multiple work streams and consistently meet challenging deadlines.
- Has a detailed application of technology knowledge in engineering practice and an appreciation of MMC, Lean Construction, Agile Programme Management, Production Thinking and other techniques that assure programme and quality performance.
- Can work independently or as part of a diverse team.
- Display detailed and competent knowledge of mechanical, electrical and chemical engineering. This would ideally be associated with manufacturing in the water sector, but this is not essential.
- Proficient in the use of computer packages including the latest BIM software.
- Display a creative and forward-thinking approach to problem solving and continuous improvement.
- Excellent communication and engagement skills - ability to bring the whole team on the MMC journey including the client and our supply chain.
- Minimum HNC qualified in a mechanical, electrical or chemical engineering subject.
In Return
You can expect a competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package which includes the following:
- Car Allowance
- 26 days annual leave (with the opportunity to buy or sell holiday)
- Private medical insurance for yourself (with the option to buy family cover)
- Matched pension scheme up to 8%
