We have an opportunity for an experienced Rolling Stock Engineer, ideally experienced in MK 4, 170 or Class 67 Loco's. This is a day rate contract for 6 months+
The successful candidate will manage engineering requirements as part of the Project team overseeing the introduction of cascaded rolling stock on the a new rail franchise.
Key Responsibilities
Specifically, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following deliverables:
- Managing work packages within the Engineering Project Team, ensuring delivery of the agreed scope on time and within project budget
- Carry out reviews of engineering design packages and vehicle maintenance instructions to aid the safe integration of the fleet
- Adapt and create maintenance documents to suit the operator’s requirements identifying tooling and material requirements for safe operation of the fleet
- Manage the engineering change process and provide the relevant supporting documentation required to gain approval for any modifications
- Providing visibility of progress, managing engineering risks and issues on the project and escalating within the project hierarchy as/when required throughout the Project duration
- Following directives and priorities given by the Project Management whilst liaising with all other functions as a key member of the Project’s management team and reviewing project performance metrics
- Incorporate best practice and lessons learned from within the wider projects, developing improvement schemes and ensuring Project progress against them.
- Supporting and facilitating the project engineering team’s interfaces with other stakeholders to ensure efficient execution of governance engineering (RAMS, Safety, Approval, Verification &Validation, etc)
Qualifications/Experience
In order to be successful in this role, the successful candidate will need to demonstrate the following:
- University degree in engineering or equivalent experience
- Strong technical background with focus on project engineering, system engineering and system performance (safety, availability, operability)
- Proven vehicle level experience in the engineering and maintenance of rolling-stock
- Experience of managing and co-ordinating global engineering service providers
- Experience of working with design companies, overhaul/modification companies and rolling stock owners. Must be flexible to travel (as the position may involve regular UK travel)
- Experienced in heavy overhaul and/or large complex modification projects, involved in all stages of as project from design, through to modification, test, acceptance, commissioning, approvals and operational deployment
- Ability to communicate and influence at all levels
- Ability to stay calm under pressure and to communicate effectively in an ambiguous environment
- High standard of written and oral English
