Project Manager (Control Systems Delivery) in Derby, United Kingdom

Project Manager (Control Systems Delivery)

Primary Location: Derby

About us

Our vision is to create a truly connected rail network, using deep technology expertise and industry experience to deliver game-changing solutions that meet transport challenges across the UK and beyond. Delivering high levels of automation into complex operational environments, we recently integrated our control systems technology with our own Traffic Management System, a genuine world first. Our service offer will continue to grow, taking advantage of cloud, data analytics, edge computing and IT/OT integration. We are a company that is excited by the possibilities offered by technology and driven by improving experiences for passengers globally.

About you
You will be passionate about delivering technology and its benefits for society, the economy and environmental sustainability. You do not need to have a background in rail, but solid experience of project managing the delivery of technology systems, comprising hardware, software, and data, into client environments would be an advantage as this is an external commercial delivery role.

Project management is a key client interface on control systems projects of operational importance to our clients and strategic imperative to our business. You will need to remain close to day-to-day delivery through our specialist teams, whilst ensuring the overarching objectives of the business.

Personally, you will be:

  • Invested in delivering technology projects that make a real-world difference to all stakeholders
  • Looking to develop your skills, experience, and career in commercial project management
  • Commercially focussed, organised, and able to work under pressure and to deadlines
  • A problem solver who can identify risks to delivery and enjoys overcoming challenges
  • A “people person”, who is resilient and comfortable in developing robust relationships
  • Willing to work outside of your personal comfort zone to deliver, and to develop personally

About the role
Reporting to a Project Delivery Director, you'll be responsible for a range of activities, including:

  • Safely managing a small portfolio of projects to time, cost, and quality
  • Management of the client relationship:
    • acting as day-to-day client interface, and producing client-based communications
    • owning the commercial and contractual relationship
    • identifying mutually beneficial opportunities to drive revenue growth
  • Maintaining a clear understanding of our scope commitments and performance targets with changes controlled effectively
  • Understanding our organisational objectives and product strategy - ensuring that day-to-day delivery does not lose sight of these overarching objectives
  • Ensuring the programme shape and approach is sound, with inter-dependencies (internal and third parties) widely understood
  • Establishing appropriate internal governance, and a clear understanding of external governance expectations - contributing to both through measurement and reporting on key contract performance measures
  • Identifying risk, promoting transparency, and ensuring effective mitigations are in place.

What you will get
With the ability to work flexibly within Control Systems, you will be supported by a mentor as you develop your experience and capabilities in a technically complex and challenging commercial environment. Your personal network will also grow, both internally with our talented technical and domain specialists across the business, and externally across our client portfolio and supplier base.

Our package is comprehensive, with a salary in the region of £40-50k based on the experience and value you can bring, 27 days annual leave (plus public holidays), Company-paid healthcare cover, Life Assurance and Income Protection cover, and a personal pension plan. We also offer free eye tests, flu vaccinations, an employee assistance programme, and cycle-2-work scheme.

Flexibility in How and Where we Work
At Resonate it’s the ‘how’ we do things together with ‘what’ we do that differentiates us. We want our people to engage with our vision and display our values and behaviours in their daily activities.

Joining the team, contributing to our vision, and becoming a “Resonator” should not be determined by traditional views of working, our background, or our personal circumstances. What we do, when we do it, and where, should promote positive outcomes - meeting client commitments, innovating, and collaboration with colleagues – flexibility is key to this.

Our Control Systems Division is based in Derby, although we have a flexible, hybrid approach to work and location (we have beautiful contemporary workspaces in Derby, Milton Keynes, and London) – so talk to us about your preferences and how these could work for us both.

Our normal full-time hours are 37 per week, but there is a great deal of flexibility over start and finish times, so this role may well suit an individual looking for an arrangement that suits their needs and commitments, around our current requirement to be in the office at least one day per week.
