Project Manager / Lead Assessor for Independent Safety Assessment (ISA) - Railway
This position is responsible for managing and leading independent safety assessments of railway systems, ensuring adherence to regulatory and safety standards. The role requires coordination with multidisciplinary teams, serving as a liaison between clients, regulatory bodies, and internal teams to secure safety compliance. The ideal candidate will bring technical expertise to complex railway projects and contribute to the overall reliability of railway infrastructure.
Responsibilities:
Project Oversight:
- Lead ISA projects, ensuring timely and budget-compliant delivery, with high-quality standards maintained throughout.
- Create project plans, outline scope, assign resources, and track progress against set goals and deliverables.
- Act as the primary contact for clients, regulatory bodies, and project stakeholders.
Safety Compliance & Assessment:
- Conduct safety assessments for railway systems following CENELEC standards (EN 50126, EN 50128, EN 50129) and other relevant safety requirements.
- Review and analyse safety documentation (e.g., Hazard Analyses, Risk Assessments, Safety Cases, Verification & Validation reports).
- Identify safety risks and develop recommendations for mitigation and compliance.
Technical Leadership:
- Facilitate technical assessments, applying best practices in safety assurance and industry methodologies.
- Develop and review safety management plans and provide support to assessors in the assessment process.
Communication & Reporting:
- Generate comprehensive safety assessment reports and executive summaries for client and regulatory submission.
- Lead meetings and discussions to address assessment findings, resolve issues, and ensure project alignment.
- Represent the ISA team as a safety subject matter expert at client meetings.
Risk Assessment:
- Evaluate safety risks throughout project phases and implement risk mitigation measures as per regulatory standards.
Compliance and Standards:
- Stay informed on the latest railway safety standards and ensure all assessments meet national and international requirements.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Systems Engineering; additional qualifications in Safety Engineering or Risk Management are advantageous.
- Experience: At least 20 years in railway safety roles, including 10 years specifically in Independent Safety Assessment.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in safety methodologies and CENELEC standards.
- Project Management: Demonstrated experience in leading safety projects and coordinating with diverse teams.
Desired Competencies:
- Strong grasp of railway systems, including signalling and rolling stock.
- Proficiency in safety analysis techniques such as FMECA, HAZID, and FTA.
- Familiarity with software safety assessment and cybersecurity in rail.
- Experience with regional safety authorities is preferred.
