Project Manager – Switching and Permanently Earthed Section

- Support the Principle Package Manager ensuring duties are fulfilled in a timely manner.
- Take responsibility for the submission and delivery of the Switching and Permanently Earthed Section programme for the CVL works. Ensuring all assurance requires are complied with and as-built data is controlled.
- Ensure that all safety documentation is produced and approved for all work being carried out under the package.
- Manage weekly construction meetings ensuring that progress to date and forecasts are being carried to meet reporting requirements.
- Co-ordination of all works package activities & disciplines to ensure a cohesive plan.
- Manage the delivery of the works package as agreed by the package Manager, ensuring that the work is carried out in a safe and effective manner to cost, to specification and to plan.
- Interface with MDC ensuring materials process to ensure timely delivery of materials.
- Ensure health and safety matters are properly controlled to the relevant standards and that policy is clearly communicated and implemented.
- Ensuring that all relevant and applicable company procedures are strictly adhered to.
- To promote, through pro-active leadership, improvements in Safety, Health and Environmental management in line with the objectives set by the business.
- Ensure that systems are in place to ensure all work activities obtain the necessary approvals and that all contract, technical and administrative instructions are implemented prior to commencement of the works.
- Input to and monitor the Contract Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), including financial, commercial, safety and personnel related issues, as agreed with the Account Director.
- Ensure all operations staff fulfils their potential through performance review with recommendations for developmental training.
- Proactively seek improvements in efficiency of operation to support targets through continuous business improvement.
- Display and develop in others a collaborative behaviour and culture.
- Report the progress and performance against the contract, in collaboration with the Account Director at weekly and monthly business reviews.

What will this role involve?
- Project Initiation
- Aligning the project with the overall Amey business strategy and obtain necessary business and IT approvals
- Creating Project / Programme Brief, Project Initiation Document (PID), Communication Plan and Project Quality Plan
- Defining the project business case, project objectives and scope
- Documenting critical success factors, project acceptance criteria and customer quality expectations
- Ensuring that logs are set up for managing and tracking issues, risks, decisions and lessons learned
- Overseeing quality control throughout the project cycle
- Project Planning
- Defining products / specific deliverables to be delivered by the project
- Ensuring that the engagement of any third party project resources is managed in accordance with Amey procedures and policies
- Preparing stage plans
- Securing the necessary resources and coordinate the efforts of team members and third party contractors or consultants in order to deliver projects according to plan
- Project Management Applying appropriate PRINCE2 principles to the management of projects in line with agreed Amey standards
- Defining and managing the delivery of individual works packages
- Ensuring project compliance with Health and Safety, Environmental and other appropriate regulations
- Forecasting and monitoring the financial performance of the project, giving regular (minimum monthly) reports, comparing actual and forecast performance to plan and explaining variations
- Maintaining regular liaison with all stakeholders and employees on the progress of projects
- Maintaining risk, issues and decisions logs and all other required project documentation
- Managing requests for change
- Managing, coaching and motivating members of the project team
- Preparing end stage reports
- Preparing weekly / monthly status, checkpoint and decision reports for meetings with the Head of Performance Management and relevant project stakeholders
- Taking appropriate action in order to ensure that the project / programme is able to deliver to the required quality, on time and to budget
- Where appropriate, ensuring that Lean Six Sigma tools and techniques are applied to analyse data, identify root causes and generate solutions
- Project Closure Coordinating post-project reviews
- Creating a formal Handover Plan / Control Plan to transition the ongoing ownership of project-related activities to appropriate business owners
- Creating post-project review plans
- Documenting any relevant case studies that can be used to support future bids
- Documenting follow-on actions and recommendations Identifying and documenting ongoing continuous improvement opportunities
- Identifying opportunities to transfer programme deliverables / best practices to other parts of the business in order to maximise return on programme investment
- Obtaining sign off from relevant stakeholders that the project deliverables meet the stated requirements
- Preparing lessons learnt report
- Change Management Developing and implementing effective communications plans to engage with stakeholders that are impacted by change or improvement initiatives
