Job Purpose
The Project Manager is responsible for the successful and safe delivery of projects to agreed time, budget and quality objectives while achieving customers' objectives. Providing first class, consistent and effective project management, leading and directing multi-disciplinary project teams (Commercial, Planning, Site Management) while ensuring appropriate resources are allocated across all projects. The post-holder will support the operational and commercial team to efficiently deliver projects to the customers' expectations. Attaining exceptional levels of Health, Safety and Performance, while maintaining company systems and maximising financial return.
Key Roles, Responsibilities and Accountabilities
Health, Safety and Environmental Management
- Oversee and ensure that Health, Safety, Environmental, Quality and Social Management documents and procedures are implemented on each project by site teams, kept up to date and undertake senior manager site inspections, ensuring that audits and reports are produced, liaising with the necessary parties
- Ensure the order of materials is in a timely way and control usage, storage and wastage
- By example, promote the highest possible standards of leadership when implementing procedures and best practice, ensuring compliance with Group procedures and legal obligations encouraging a safety culture in full support of the values
- Proactively promote continuous improvement initiatives (e.g. customer and supplier feedback, back to basics, process improvements and knowledge management)
- Ensure safe systems of work are well developed, briefed and implemented by the site teams in line with the Group Business Management System
- Liaise with third parties to ensure compliance with regulatory standards
Project Management
- Maintain accurate and appropriate records including completing and promptly returning end of shift reports, recording and reporting changes in scope of work and completing and promptly returning all receipts, GRNs, tickets
- Get it right first time. Monitor all works against specifications and the programme to ensure continuing quality and accuracy of work performed
- Promptly rectify and report problems and defects and regularly plan and review overalls status of project(s) with Contracts Manager and Site Agent
- Take ownership of multiple projects, leading delivery teams to manage risk ensuring work is completed safely, on time and within budget, to deliver work profitably and sustainably
- Ensure accurate implementation of all engineering controls and compliance with the contract drawings and specification
- Ensure all projects are contractually and commercially managed, including responsibility for ensuring all contractual timescales are adhered to
- Manage and monitor the contract deliverables, ensuring all deliverables and associated communications to clients are completed to ensure meets its contractual obligations in a collaborative and integrative approach.
- Deputise for the Contracts Manager, as required, providing appropriate commercial information to promote informed decision-making.
- Make sure all works delivered represent value for money and ensure that fair and effective commercial management processes are implemented and maintained during the life of projects.
- Support the commercial team in final account negotiations and settlements of the contracts and support the team with the contract close out.
Person Specification - Qualifications, Technical skills and Experience Qualifications and Training
Essential:
- Relevant industry qualification: NVQ/HNC/HND/BEng or equivalent experience
- Construction Manager's CSCS card (Level 6 and above)
- CSCS 5-day safety qualification (SMSTS)
- Temp Works Co-Ordinator
- CSCS
Desirable:
- Appointed Person course
- Chartered Membership (ICE or CIOB)
- Environmental Training IEMA/SEATS)
Technical Skills and Experience
- Experienced at producing programmes, RAMS, CPP, WPP, EMP etc
- Proven ability and experience delivering multiple concurrent Civil Engineering projects, with an ability to manage projects from tender to completion.
- Excellent organisational, planning and time management skills; able to manage projects simultaneously without compromising on standards and quality
- Ability to develop friendly and professional customer focused relations with others; Selfdriven, results-oriented with a positive outlook
- Experience delivering projects using a suite of contracts and NEC3/4
- Excellent working knowledge of CDM 2015 regulations and relevant industry regulations
- Able to challenge designs, resolve problems and produce and explain accurate plans and drawings
- Ability to assess and adequately mitigate all risks including those associated with working within the highways environment
- Excellent Microsoft Project Skills
- Previous experience in assisting with the tendering process would be desirable
- Experience managing projects and working with other departments to achieve project deliverables.
- Excellent people management skills with the ability to influence and mentor to motivate employees to achieve exacting standards of compliance
