Type: Permanent, full time

Location: Norwich

Job Reference: BMPROJPLAHI

Role Overview

A major infrastructure delivery partner is seeking a Senior Planning Engineer to support a flagship highways project in the East of England, based out of Norwich.

This is a high-impact role within a complex civil engineering environment, offering the opportunity to contribute directly to the successful planning and execution of a nationally significant road infrastructure upgrade. As part of the planning function, you'll play a pivotal role in ensuring work is executed efficiently, on time, and in line with the overall programme strategy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, manage, and update the main project programme, tracking key milestones, deliverables, and performance indicators.

  • Support the integration of supplier and subcontractor schedules into the overall programme, ensuring alignment and consistency across all work streams.

  • Produce and maintain short-term and look-ahead programmes that support day-to-day site operations and enable effective coordination among teams.

  • Conduct critical path and float analysis, identifying potential schedule risks and proactively supporting the mitigation of delays.

  • Generate programme updates, reports, and dashboards for internal and external stakeholders, including progress assessments against key delivery targets.

  • Participate in collaborative planning sessions with project managers, engineers, and site teams to ensure accuracy and realism in planning outputs.

  • Use planning expertise to identify opportunities for improvement, drive efficiency, and reduce waste across the project life cycle.

  • Contribute to programme submissions and planning documentation for client and stakeholder review, including compliance with contract and reporting obligations.

About You

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Proven experience as a Planning Engineer or Planner within the construction or infrastructure sector on large-scale highways projects.

  • Strong working knowledge of construction techniques, engineering principles, and planning best practices.

  • Proficiency in planning software such as Primavera P6 or equivalent tools.

  • A good understanding of NEC contracts and programme requirements under typical UK infrastructure frameworks.

  • The ability to analyse complex project data and communicate findings clearly and confidently to technical and non-technical audiences.

  • A collaborative mindset, able to work closely with multiple stakeholders across delivery and commercial teams.
