Project Quality & Safety Manager in Derby, Derbyshire, United Kingdom

Project Quality & Safety Manager
£45-£50k (Permanent Position)
York or Derby

We have been part of the U.K. rail industry for over a century. One third of all daily passenger rail journeys in the UK are on our trains and half of the trains on the London Underground were made by us. We provide the widest range of smart solutions in the rail market, from innovative high-speed rolling stock, metros and trams to maintenance, modernisation, infrastructure and signalling.

We are thrilled to be recruiting for a new role: Project Quality and Safety Manager

The Role
This role provides management and coordination of quality and safety assessment activities
across multiple systems, signalling and infrastructure projects within the United Kingdom and Ireland. This role shall also ensure there is consistency between project quality, cost, delivery, performance and customer satisfaction objectives.

Working across multiple projects within our Systems, Signalling and Infrastructure (SS&I) business, this role will be based in Derby or York. This role will involve frequent travel across the United Kingdom to support our project delivery teams, reporting directly to the Head of Quality for SS&I and functionally to the relevant Project Manager.

Responsibilities
This role is responsible for the delivery of all project quality activities across our portfolio, whilst being the key interface with customer quality and safety teams. This will include documenting planned quality activities in a Project Quality Plan which meets both customer, regulatory and internal requirements, and ensuring these activities are executed as planned. Furthermore, the postholder will act as a change agent for the deployment and continual improvement of our global processes across all business functions, influencing and coaching peers and senior managers in the new ways of working.

As an experienced and Chartered Quality Professional with the Chartered Quality Institute, we would expect the postholder to drive reductions in cost of non-quality, manage non-conformities and promote continuous improvement. There is an expectation the postholder will also:

*Support the project manager in the readiness, whilst independently assessing compliance to project controls as part of project gate review process
*Carry out an assessment of project safety assurance activities through safety reviews and production of a safety authorisation prior to customer handover
*Inspect project processes for compliance to global standards and manage non-conformities to closure
*Measure and improve project quality performance
*Perform activities relating to industrial quality, supplier quality and internal audit as required.

Requirements
The successful candidate will have:
*A member of the Chartered Quality Institute
*A strong record of experience in quality
*An engineering background (mechanical, electrical or civil)
*A working knowledge of the railway infrastructure and associated processes would be an advantage, although experience associated with other safety critical engineering industries may be considered for exemplary candidates.
*Excellent communication skills, and able to influence at all levels of an organisation.

Location
*The role can be based at either the York or Derby project offices
*Projects involved in may be nationwide so travel will be expected. Leeds is a key project destination
