Rolling Stock Project Engineer in London, London, Greater London, England, United Kingdom
Overview of role
In support of train life extension work, the post holder is to coordinate engineering activities within Rolling Stock project teams with the primary objective of delivering safe, compliant, efficient economic and assured engineering solutions in a timely manner.
Key Accountabilities
• Engineering coordination of train system projects.
• Development and management of project requirements.
• Provision of technical input into procurement and contract management of suppliers.
• Involvement of technical specialist engineers as appropriate to ensure that the objectives, technical and performance requirements are met.
• Planning and engineering management of project execution.
• Planning for project assurance.
• Creation of assurance products including concept, compliance and consent submissions.
• Ensuring contractors’ compliance with applicable standards, specifications and procedures.
• Development and management of design and design compliance.
• Leading the design review process including production and management of issues lists.
• Planning and management of systems integration.
• Management of engineering safety.
• Engineering management of testing, completion and bringing into use.
• Oversight of modification prototyping
• Engineering support to production activities.
Skills
• Ability to analyse complex data, draw conclusions, produce reports and make recommendations to senior management.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with people at all levels across the organisation and externally.
• Ability to build effective working relationships, with people at all levels across the organisation and externally and to influence.
• Ability to plan, implement and manage engineering within projects to deliver to time, budget and quality.
• Ability to manage multidisciplinary teams to deliver effective performance.
• Ability to use initiative and good judgement when responding to emerging situations, deciding and agreeing appropriate actions with project management.
Knowledge
• Engineering Degree.
• Chartered Engineer Status or qualifications leading to Chartered Status together with membership of an appropriate professional institution.
• Knowledge of safety legislation and operating rules and regulations.
• Knowledge of LU business, its obligations and priorities.
• Knowledge of Rolling Stock, preferably London Underground trains.
• Knowledge of maintenance techniques and good industry practice.
• Knowledge of risk management principles.
• Knowledge of project lifecycle principles and processes, ideally Tfl Pathway.
• Awareness of contractual arrangements.
• Working knowledge of aspects of the track, trains, signalling system, and civil structures insofar as they interface with other parts of the operational business.
Experience
• Experience of leading and managing the engineering content of a range of projects.
• Experience of designing rolling stock modifications.
• Experience of technical input to rolling stock procurements.
• Experience of carrying out technical document review and analysis.
• Experience of managing design review processes
• Experience of overseeing prototype and production phases of modification projects
• Experience of the project handover especially in the LU environment desirable.
• Experience of requirements capture and design management desirable.
• Experience of building relationships with, and influencing, a range of people at all levels within and outside the organisation
