Job Purpose –
Scheme Project Managers work across the full portfolio of Network Rails infrastructure investment from minor renewals through to complex multi-disciplinary programmes. Accountable for managing the safe and effective delivery of low complexity projects (LoC 3 and 4) OR working as part of a multi-disciplinary team supporting the project or programme manager deliver key outputs of complex projects and programmes (LoC 1 and 2) in order to meet client requirements to time, cost, quality, and performance
Assignment background
Working on the ETCS project, managing the design development, assurance, authorisation, and delivery of this critical project.
Duties will include (not limited to)
- Managing the upkeep of project trackers such as GRIP, AMP, Action Lists,
- Programme – monitoring/upkeep of the programme.
- Assurance – managing this key activity, including the various safety bodies (ApBo, NoBo, ISA). This includes developing remits, instructions, etc.
- Delivery – managing AMP through its entirety.
- Governance – reporting (weekly, periodic); change (EWNs); commercial.
Day to day duties
Responsible for overseeing the delivery of the project to ensure that objectives are clearly defined and achieved within the agreed time, cost and quality constraints. They will play a key role in project governance, working with stakeholders to ensure the agreed project outputs are delivered to enable the projected benefits to be realised. Design the project structure appropriate to stage, selecting and applying relevant delivery methodologies. Ensure benefits
are identified, understood, measured, tracked and owned. Identify and monitor project risks and issues. Develop mitigating actions and escalate as appropriate. Ensure effective change management processes are in place to agree and document changes to deliverables as agreed with stakeholders. Experience in the delivery of projects, governance and risk
Key skills
Candidate should be experienced in railway projects, specifically civils in the railway environment. Familiar with NR processes including AMP and be highly competent in Microsoft systems. Commercial understanding essential, NR12 experience preferable. Must be a good communicator and able to work collaboratively with the supply chain to achieve results.

You’ll have essential experience of the following demonstrated on your C.V:
Educated to degree level in a relevant discipline or equivalent experience.
Membership (or working towards membership) of the Association for Project Management.
Achieved PRINCE2 Foundation or equivalent in experience
Good stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
Successful relevant experience including experience of contracting and project delivery.
Knowledge and experience of project budget management.
Good evaluation and decision-making skills.
Project safety management and Health and Safety legislation knowledge.
Knowledge safety cases in support of projects.
Rail experience
It is desirable but not essential that you also have the following criteria/ qualifications:
Experience in the Rail Industry Sector (including application of GRIP, and Construction Design Management (CDM) on simple projects).
Knowledge of Network Rail’s Project, Investment, Commercial and Procurement practices.
Experience in risk identification, assessment and mitigation.
Flexible and pro-active approach.
You will be a team player with willingness to learn, challenge and get involved.
Knowledge of Network Rail’s assets and how they are managed
