Job Description
This role is a Senior Project Engineer working on the National Freight ETCS project interacting with Network Rail, the ETCS Equipment Supplier, and all Freight Operators (FOCs).
The role supports the Lead Engineer’s Forum (LEF) formed of FOC Engineers & reports to the MBRC Engineering Manager.
The main tasks will be:
• Support the LEF in the review of:
o Design drawings
o Safety and Assurance outputs supporting design documentation
• Creating Documentation to Assist the Engineering Group
o Technical Queries to Suppliers
o Responses to Technical notes and Queries from Suppliers
o Guidance notes to assist the LEF
o Assist with Engineering Change process documentation
• Lead Electrical Project Engineer
o Escalation point for any electrical queries regarding designs and supporting documentation
o Support FOCs to lead / perform on site electrical testing of vehicles
• Lead contact during fitment of vehicles.
• Lead contact for MBRC support to a FOC.
Location
The base location will be Edinburgh, however there is potential for a significant amount of travel to London and the Midlands (roughly 50% of days worked). In addition, during times of vehicle fitments there is the potential for full time working at sites. Therefore, the candidate must be willing to travel within the UK including overnight stays during the week where required.
Requirements
The successful candidate must have the following within the Rail Industry:
• Experience in electrical test procedures for vehicles
• Experience in writing safety & technical documentation
• Experience in reading and review of electrical drawings
• Experience in “hands-on” working with rail vehicles
• Knowledge of Hazard Identification (HazIds)
• Knowledge of Risk Assessment
• Knowledge of Railway Undertaking processes for Engineering Change
• Awareness of Railway Vehicle Maintenance

Desirable
In addition, it would be of benefit if the candidate has prior experience of:
• ETCS on board equipment
• Freight Operators
• Network Rail Projects
Education & Experience
Either:
• Degree 2:1 or above in Electrical Engineering.
• 7 Years’ Rail Industry experience in an electrical role
Or:
• 10 Years’ Rail Industry experience in an electrical role
Annual Leave
• 35 days annual leave including 2 weeks shutdown for Christmas
