Technical Authority Project Manager
A Technical Authority Project Manager is required to join our Research and Development department to drive forward the product development of ground-breaking technology in the rail industry.
The TA PM will be expected to lead and advise on all aspects of the work inlead cross functional teams to deliver maximum product value to a range of internal and external customers.
The focus of the role will be on providing technical advice and guidance during technical feasibility and by participating in high level architecture design and development and some key low level design implementation. the effective coordination of activities leading to the successful delivery of projects on time and to budget. The TA will be expected to advise on key strategic issues covering the whole spectrum of his speciality. The TA will also be expected to advise on toolset choice.
The PMTA will partner liaise closely with other key roles in the organisation (e.g. programme managers, technical authorities, product line managers, etc.) to create well-defined and strategic solutions to meet project goals by leveraging existing common products and services wherever possible.ensure the project meets the needs of the business.
Within the project implementation lifecycle, the TA will be responsible for the technical aspects of the system solution evaluation and selection, buy-versus-build decisions, early-phase project estimates which contribute to the business case, and high level design. The TA will also provide guidance and architectural oversight during the detailed design, build, test and deploy phases of the development lifecycle, where necessary.
Key Responsibilities
Project Management
Working with Product line managers to develop and deliver strategic products with maximum value to the customer.
Creating the Project Management Plan and ensuring that new products or services are delivered according to the plan
Creating the schedule and proactively monitoring its overall progress, resolving issues and initiating corrective action as appropriate
Ensuring effective implementation of the company quality and safety management systems
Managing the project’s budget,monitoring the expenditures and costs against delivered and realised benefits as the project progresses
Facilitating the appointment of individuals to the project
Managing third party contributions to the project
Managing the communications with all stakeholders
Managing both the dependencies and the interfaces of the project
Managing risks to the projects successful outcome
Initiating extra activities and other management interventions wherever gaps in the project are identified or issues arise
Reporting progress of the project at regular intervals to the R&D Management team
Create coherent, comprehensive sub-system architectures that address the needs of the complete spectrum of key stakeholders (including the client)
Work with peers to conduct System Architecture Reviews and High Level Design Reviews for the appropriate development projects
Review and provide input into key aspects of the business case and work effort for specific development projects
Review and provide input into functional & non-functional requirements both at sub-system and product level
Provide consulting and conduct reviews through the development lifecycle
Technical Leadership
- Provide sub-system and product requirements and design constraints to Solution Architects, Technical Authorities and Product Line Managers to help drive and constrain strategic direction for Business Unit and Centre of Excellence system and product solutions
- Partner with other Technical Authorities, Software Architects, etc. to establish and maintain process methodologies and improvements
What do I need to qualify for this job?
Key Skills and Qualifications
- Degree in a related technical field or discipline
- 10+ years related industry experience
- Aerospace or Transport background is an asset
- 5+ years as a Project Manager
- Professional accreditation
- Proven experience of leading hardware and software development
- Experience in projects that developed complex electronics for rail or aerospace
- Good understanding of hardware, software and system development as well as experience with new product introduction
- Experience with MS Project
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Experience of safety systems development desirableA formal qualification in a relevant engineering, scientific or numerate discipline.
- Experience of working to industry standards, preferably in the regulated safety-related arena.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Motivated, dependable and self-reliant.
- Experience of working in both Classical and Agile development environments desirable
