Ford & Stanley - The Rail Recruitment Experts are recruiting a Media Relations Executive to join a leading Train Operator based in York on a 12 months fixed term contract.
The Opportunity
You will have the opportunity to assist in the delivery of the company's media relations strategy, engaging with and influencing the media to promote, enhance and protect the company's reputation.
Supporting the Media Relation Manager, you will be required to mitigate risks of high-profile public or media negative issues or campaigns towards the business, by proactively engaging with relevant external audiences across all media channels.

Key responsibilities
- Support the business by mitigating risks of high-profile public or media negative issues or campaigns.
- To service incoming requests from news media in line with the businesses established media handling procedures.
- To promote the media relations function within the business by providing colleagues with insights into the PR strategy and how the Press Office works.
- Responding to journalists, editors and photographers at the, radio, TV and online media outlets serving the north of England - and where relevant National/UK media
- Influencing and responding to the rail trade media
- Liaising with the media relations teams at client and stakeholder organisations and industry partners, including the Department for Transport, Passenger Focus and Passenger Transport Executive.

The Candidate
The successful candidate must have at least 2 years + experience working within a press / media relations office. A good grasp of digital communication would be ideal along with excellent written English.
Essentials
- Educated to degree level
- Significant experience in managing the media, including taking part in radio, TV and print interviews
- Experienced communicator with highly developed writing skills
- Broad understanding and interest in current affairs
- Proven capability to manage large workloads to tight deadlines, often under pressure
- Proven line management experience
- Strong planning and project management skills
Desirable
- Membership of a professional body such as the Chartered Institute of Public Relations, which requires a minimum of three years' experience in communications
