Network Rail Certification Body (NCB) is a dynamic independent company within the Network Rail Group. Brief Description
Are you passionate about system safety and making a lasting contribution to the industry? Then this opportunity with NCB is for you. This is an opportunity for a railway engineer to apply their knowledge and expertise on something quite different while contributing to improving safety in the industry. NCB is subsidiary of Network Rail providing independent assurance and certification services to Network Rail and other clients. Typically, you will be checking infrastructure enhancement projects’ compliance with safety and technical requirements stipulated by legislation. This is an important role contributing to the long-term safety of the railway being built today. The work mainly involves desk-top reviews of documented technical information provided by the client, raising findings (non-compliances, recommendations etc.), and producing reports. It may also involve witnessing work on site. As part of this, frequent interaction with technical people on the client side is needed.
About the role (External)
In this role, you will be supporting the assessment which may look at the conformance of designs, infrastructure, rail vehicles, load units and associated equipment against mandatory requirements and prepare assessment reports and certification. This involves carrying out audits of clients and reviewing changes to standards and producing guidance documents on conformance assessment and associated activities as well as checking the construction for conformance with the accepted design, including witnessing testing.
You will also be assessing maintenance plans to confirm whether they will keep the subsystem compliant for their whole life.
In addition to the above, you will also be preparing submissions to external approval bodies on behalf of your customers whilst providing them advice on conformance assessment, certification and associated regulations.
What essential skills and experiences are required?
- Member of a relevant Engineering Institution, or working towards
- Relevant rail infrastructure or rail vehicle assurance experience
- Understanding of applicable UK and international standards
- Capable of communication at senior level in the UK and Europe
