The role

A unique opportunity has arisen to lead and manage the strategic and operational performance of the quality discipline / department, ensuring the successful delivery of business strategy, key performance indicators (KPIs) and objectives, whilst adhering to regulatory compliance and achieving commercial success.

Key accountabilities

Reporting to the HSQES Director and based in our Head Office in Doncaster, role specific responsibilities include:

  • Create and implement best practice, quality vision, strategy, policies, processes and procedures to aid and improve business performance.
  • Responsible for the effective development, maintenance and continual improvement of the Integrated Management System (IMS) which addresses and co-ordinates the full requirements of ISO9001, ISO14001 and ISO45001, and underpins the Safety Certificate / Principal Contractors Licences / Plant Operators Scheme Licence to ensure it remains 'fit for purpose', effective and fully embedded within the business.
  • Responsible for the management, visibility and communication of all external audits and third party assurance activities (BSi / ORR / PCL / POS / Client / etc.), ensuring that NCRs . OFI and good practice are captured and tracked in Eco-Online and reported to the HSQES Director.
  • Responsible for the effective deployment of the corporate, business and project audit and assurance processes and report through the monthly / period reporting process identifying trends and opportunities for improvement.
  • Act as the lead for the company's Rail Management Maturity Model (RM3) assessments and resulting improvement plans by assisting the business leads in the undertaking of assessments, validation, good practice sharing and progression towards excellence.
  • Assist in continuous improvement activities throughout the business ensuring that problems are prevented and that customer requirements are met with any problems resolved effectively and economically.
  • Act as the main point of contact on all Quality matters, internally and externally and improve quality awareness through education at all levels.
  • Responsible for ensuring an awareness of new and proposed legislation that impacts the business and communicating any changes to the Senior Management Team (SMT), through the IMS.
  • Responsible for the appropriate investigation of discrepancies, errors, complaints, failures or adverse events relating to quality requiring documented review and action.
  • Provide direction and guidance to the quality team and represent VolkerRail on relevant industry committees.
  • Work collaboratively, negotiate, engage and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders to facilitate delivery and compliance with the quality strategy.
  • Responsible for the development of the annual Integrated Management System audit programme and participating in the delivery of audits throughout the company to ensure compliance with the Integrated Management System.
  • Assist the work winning team and HSQES directorate in producing information required for tenders relating to quality and the IMS where requested.
  • Assist in the qualification of suppliers and subcontractors in conjunction with the procurement department.

Skills & experience

The ideal candidate will have the following experience, qualifications & skills:

  • Extensive experience in a Corporate Quality role, ideally in the rail or construction industry.
  • Hold a level 5 diploma in Quality Management and a Lead Auditor qualification.
  • Experience of implementing a IMS to meet the requirements of ISO9001.
  • Full Driving licence.
  • Line Management experience.
  • Member of the Institute of Quality Assurance.
