About the function
Network Certification Body (NCB) is a dynamic independent company within the Network Rail Group; we provide infrastructure and rail vehicle assessment services in the UK and European rail industry and we’re growing to meet the needs of this expanding market. We provide a comprehensive range of certification services, covering all the legislation that a rail engineering project require, and we need talented people like you to join us. You’ll develop your career whilst playing a key role in the safety of rail vehicles on the operational railway of the future.
Who are we looking for?
We’re looking for someone with relevant engineering experience to manage the assessment and/or certification of railway equipment and systems for conformance with mandatory requirements. With your expertise, you will be identifying and making recommendations for relevant standards (UK and International) for use in railway conformance, and providing guidance on the application of these standards and legislation to customers. We’re looking for someone organised, to plan, manage and carry out audits of clients. We’re also looking for someone with excellent communication skills, to prepare and represent submissions on behalf of customers, representing the customers at panels and in discussions with those organisations.
About the role (External)
What does the average day look like?
In this role you will manage the assessment and/or certification of railway equipment and systems for conformance with mandatory requirements and manage other associated safety assurance activities. You will act as an assessor in the conformance assessment of railway projects and products as required by applicable legislation or industry regulations, meaning you will produce assessment reports and certification. This includes providing conformance assessments and certification expertise and advice to customers and stakeholders.
Day to day you will also produce guidance on the application of the standards and legislation relevant to determining railway conformance. As well as identifying relevant standards for use in railway conformance, making customers aware of all relevant requirements and making recommendations for changes to UK and international standards. You will also prepare submissions to external approval bodies on behalf of customers and represent customers at panels and in discussion with those organisations. Which includes planning, managing and carrying out audits of clients as part of providing assurance or certification of their activities.
What essential skills and experiences are required?
- Incorporated Engineer, or equivalent level of engineering experience
- Corporate member of a relevant Engineering Institution
- Degree in a relevant subject or substantial experience in lieu
- Substantial relevant rail infrastructure or rail vehicle assurance experience
- Commercial awareness and experience in a customer facing role
- Capable of communication at senior level in the UK and Europe
- Thorough understanding of applicable UK and international standard

Band & Salary: 3C £55,596 - £62,546
