Leading international engineering contractor who employs 26,000 staff across 34 countries with an annual turnover of £6.7billion is seeking to employ a talented and ambitious Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join their team in Edinburgh.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an Assistant Quantity Surveyor who has worked on civil engineering or, power / OHL projects, to join a business with a strong order book of work in the UK and international markets.

This position is an initial 6 month fixed term contract which may be extended for longer. The position is based in Edinburgh within walking distance or Edinburgh Waverley station.


As Assistant Quantity Surveyor you will join the project management team and key responsibilities will include:

  • Assistance with project budgetary requirements
  • Assistance in the preparation of project monthly reviews
  • Cash flow forecasting
  • Additional sales and margin generation through contracts
  • Forecasting and negotiation of final accounts
  • Negotiation of contract Ts and Cs with both customers and subcontractors
  • Contract drafting
  • Preliminary legal reviews to assist legal department
  • Submission of variations and claims to customers
  • Adhering to Nexans internal governance rules for contracts
  • Collate financial information for audits
  • Provide an estimating service and/or assistance to the estimating department for additional and varied works
  • Assistance in management and procurement of subcontractors in accordance with company procedures and the law in the UK.
  • Control and expedite payments from customers and maintain and keep up to date contract files
  • Maintain good relationships with head office, site personnel and when visiting clients and public
  • Keep management informed with respect to contract correspondence and prepare draft response where appropriate
  • Ensure that all site staff understand the contract documents, in order to satisfy the client's requirements
  • Monitor progress against the contract program
  • Monitor the contract costs and values on a monthly basis
  • To operate in an open and even handed manner with all personnel across the business. Treat others with courtesy, and respect
  • To proactively contribute to teamwork and cross-functional working
  • Working in an open and multicultural team environment
  • Follow-up of project progress, sales, invoices, in relation with Project Managers and sales administration department
  • To comply with the Group Code of Ethics and particularly implementation of the Group rules and policies related to the relations with agents and consultants, competition law, the annual actions of the Ethics Compliance Program


To be considered for the role of Assistant Quantity Surveyor candidates will ideally be educated to degree level and will have experience of working on either civil engineering or power projects.
