Assistant Quantity Surveyor in Coulsdon, Croydon, United Kingdom
Assistant Quantity Surveyor is required to provide advice and report on and control all commercial and financial aspects of projects and contracts. The role includes offering support to the Senior quantity Surveyor and Project Manager to allow projects to be delivered on time, to budget and to achieve the highest levels of customer satisfaction and enable the Company’s objectives to be achieved. The Assistant Quantity Surveyor will assist the Senior Quantity Surveyor in providing commercial assistance for projects to maximize returns by working within procedures to support the Senior Commercial Manager and Project Managers.
1. Manage resources
- Produce and send enquiries to subcontractors inviting them to tender and engagement with supply chain.
- Receive and analyse quotations, liaising with Project Managers/ Procurement team regarding price, proven history, availability etc.
- Notify in writing both successful and unsuccessful subcontractors in a timely manner.
- Produce and process formal subcontract documents and certify interim and final payments and final subcontract accounts.
- Produce bill of quantity/activity schedule for valuation and payment purposes.
- Produce cash flow forecasts for internal and external purposes.
- Monitor and control income and expenditure on contracts e.g. interim /final applications for payment
- Produce relevant monthly reports for the Senior Commercial Manager e.g. cost and value comparisons, turnover forecasts etc. ensuring information is complete and correct.
2. Manage Information
- Contribute to and attend financial and progress meetings with the Client engineers and subcontractors as required
- Provide advice and support to the site team in order to optimize the use of contract resources.
- Provide support for the Senior Commercial Manager in terms of harvesting data, maintaining, and managing records and data inputting etc.
- Give feedback to Estimators and Project Managers with regards to contract pricing, projected profit/loss, pricing omissions etc.
3. Key measures and Targets
- Accurate monthly forecasting, accurate and timely contribution to and supporting monthly valuations (and final account), timely management of change internally and externally, timely identification and submission of EWNs and CENS, timely responses and quotation of CEs (variations and claims), accurate and timely forecasting, accurate and timely add and re-measurement to contract SMM, timely assessment and management of rolling final account and status of share or financial risks.
- Ability to challenge resources and costs
Maintain deadlines in line with monthly commercial calendar

Education Requirements
- ONC/HNC/degree in Quantity Surveying, or equivalent
- Previous experience of the civil engineering and railway industry
- Strong command of the English language
Knowledge and Skills
- Familiarity with NEC forms of contract
- Ability to use a range of IT packages including Microsoft Office and bespoke packages
- Ability to demonstrate a good knowledge of supporting valuation of work monthly reporting and earned value analysis.
- Exceptional relationship building skills
- Self-motivated and proactive
- Commercial awareness and an understanding of the construction process
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
- Negotiation skills and ability to apply those internally, externally and with our supply chain.

Other requirements
This role requires someone who can join the delivery team, be a driver in all commercial matters. The individual will need to be hands on and undertake a combined AQS and QS function for a modest portfolio of projects. Be pro-active in all Health, Safety & Environmental issues. Ensure compliance with all the ADComms controlled documents including all the ADComms procedures.
