Estimating Quantity Surveyor (Superstructure & Envelope)

Location: London

Rate: £380 - 450 per day OR £55,000k plus benefits (depending on experience)

Start: Immediately

My client is currently looking for a Estimating Quantity Surveyor to join their team out of the London area. The ideal Estimating Quantity Surveyor will come on board to help ensure that the estimates fully reflects the specific constraints, risks and challenges of the project, including its construction sequence, methodologies and the impact of time.

Estimating Quantity Surveyor's Key Responsibilities

  • Support the validation of the Incentive Target estimate
  • Work closely with the Project Controls and Construction Teams to develop the construction methodology, temporary works requirements, preliminaries, staff costs and the like and ensure this is integrated into the overall estimate.
  • Support the input of the costing data into the BIM model to facilitate cost modelling requirements.
  • Work with the Project Controls Team to develop and maintain the risk register for the project and ensure sufficient contingency is allowed within the budget to reflect the level of uncertainty in the project at each stage of its lifecycle.
  • Validate unit rates and construction methodology with key sub-contractors and ensure this is built into estimate.
  • Assist the review and cost checking of the developing design and update the estimate as necessary.
  • Aid with the evaluation of change to the project.
  • Work with the Commercial Team to update and report the End Life Forecasted cost for the project on monthly basis.

Estimating Quantity Surveyor's Qualifications/Requirements

  • Good understanding of estimating and construction methodology
  • Experiences of working on Superstructure & Envelope in the Rail sector
  • Strong commercial awareness
  • Able to work under pressure to tight timelines
  • Ability to use BIM modelling to create cost estimate models
  • Experience of QRA and other sensitivity modelling software
  • Analytically minded, including having the ability to undertake financial analysis
  • Possesses a strong attention to detail
  • Minimum 5 years' experience of project estimating/surveying
  • Experience of major projects
  • Strong knowledge of construction techniques and their implications on cost
  • Good relevant degree or NVQ in surveying or construction
  • Working towards or obtained Professional Membership (RICS/CIOB or similar)
  • Tier 1 or 2 Main Contractor experience
  • Experience in the railway environment
