Job Role: Graduate Quantity Surveyor

Location: London

Salary / Day Rate: Dependant Upon Experience

Key Responsibilities for the Graduate Quantity Surveyor:

  • Calculate tender cost estimates, utilising both conceptual and detailed unit cost techniques;
  • Compile cost estimates using "first principles" to detail resource requirements for various construction activities
  • Compile cost estimates using detailed quotations from members of the approved supply chain
  • Liaise with and co-ordinate input from supply chain in the goal of receiving suitably detailed and compliant quotations for various work packages
  • Compile supply chain enquiry packages for distribution to relevant members of the supply chain as part of our Requests for Pricing
  • Analyse and understand inherent risks, as well as opportunities, within construction work packages and be able to identify any scope gaps, or overlaps, between work packages
  • Carry out accurate take-offs of design drawings (PDF and / or CAD) and compilation of detailed Bills of Quantities in line with the specified Method of Measurement and the tender design specifications
  • Review plans and specifications to ensure they are biddable and buildable
  • Liaise with the Bid Design team for confirmation of any queries relating to the tender design output, including drawings and specifications
  • Take the lead in relevant supply chain meetings for your work packages, being able to suitably convey our bid strategy as well as counter any incorrect assumptions or unacceptable clarifications
  • Review construction programme for consistency with estimates
  • Assist in forecasting project cash flow requirements
  • Assist in management of the tender submission as and when required;
  • Liaise and co-ordinate with other members of the Estimating team on the split of estimating responsibilities
  • Work closely with the Head of Estimating, ensuring they are apprised of estimating activities within your portfolio
  • Arrange, in liaison with the Head of Estimating, tender settlements and other price centred bid meetings
  • Work closely with and provide support to the Business Development Department, in relation to future opportunities and tenders likely to be received

Person Specification / Technical Competencies for the Senior Quantity Surveyor:

  • Degree or Higher education qualification required
  • Experience in civil engineering
  • Demonstrated knowledge of construction estimating
  • Good understanding of construction drawings and specifications
  • Good understanding of Quantity Surveying techniques and ability to accurately measure drawings
  • Flexible approach - Prepared to work flexibly as required by the needs of service - some travel / remote working from partner offices required
