Job title: Quantity Surveyor - Rail Infrastructure and Property

Salary: £43,000 per annum plus excellent benefits

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Infrastructure and Property Projects team as a Quantity Surveyor based at our Head office in Derby. Reporting to the Property Portfolio Manager the Quantity Surveyor will provide pre and post commercial support to the business.

Key Responsibilities:

*Providing cost estimates to the business on capital proposals so that early stage cost: benefit analyses can be conducted.
*To develop and deploy a standard approach for optimism bias & contingency at each stage of the project approval process and throughout the project lifecycle.
*To advise on whole life costs of projects to ensure true costs are captured at an early stage, and that cash flow forecasts can be prepared.
*To ensure key requirements are correctly translated in works submitted for tendering so that tender returns deliver business requirements as efficiently as possible.
*To ensure successful tenders have correctly encompassed the business requirements and that contracts drawn up minimise the likelihood of variation events.
*To act as company agent on live contracts, ensuring that terms of the contract are adhered to.
*To validate any contractor applications for payment, ensuring that the contractor has delivered the claimed degree of work and process payment certification.
*To review any contractor variations/early warning notices, engage with appropriate stakeholders and deliver effective resolution to them.
*Provide periodic cost-value data reports for operational review and investigate between actual and anticipated trends.
*Collaborate with the Project Accountant/s to ensure that contractor claims for payment are reconciled correctly against cost lines and franchise commitments.
*Manage the benefits review capture for completed projects.

Required Skills and Experience:

We are looking for someone with previous relevant experience in Quantity Surveying, ideally in a transport environment.
You will have demonstrable experience of understanding of safety in construction works, holding a NEBOSH/SMSTS or similar accreditation.
You will also need experience of tendering and managing framework contracts, CIOB and NEC contracts.
You will have knowledge and understanding of commercial management of construction projects and the construction process in general.
It would be beneficial to have excellent IT, organisational and negotiating skills.
Professional membership such as RICS would also be advantageous.
