Background to BBR ETS Engineering Liverpool Activities

BBRail ETS consists of a Rail Engineering Services and Technologies business operating out of offices located in the South East, Midlands and North of England. The Overhead Line Electrification (OLE) design office is based in Liverpool providing OLE Design and professional engineering services to Rail Electrification projects to internal and external customers in the UK and overseas.


The Role
Reporting to the Senior Quantity Surveyor, the Quantity Surveyor will provide commercial support to the Overhead Line Engineering design business in accordance with Balfour Beatty Commercial processes. The QS will be simultaneously supporting multiple project managers with contract values of up to £15m in an innovative and high value-added environment. Your permanent location will be Alaska House, Dunnings Bridge Road in Liverpool, though the role will involve some travel to customer and other Balfour Beatty sites in the UK. Chiefly this will be South Wales for the first 12 months. Travel and lodging costs will be covered for work away from base location.

Specific Duties
• Adherence to BMS Commercial Procedures, more specifically:
o General Minimum Commercial Expectations
o Balfour Beatty Gated Lifecycle
• Ensuring on time payment in line with contractual entitlement
• Customer interfacing on all commercial matters, including:
o Change control submissions, monitoring and settlements
o Customer correspondence
o Final account administration and settlements
• Post contract award commercial support to individual project managers and projects
• Pre contract commercial activities
• Subcontract procurement and management
• Preparation of Monthly project reports and commercial input at Gate 6 reviews
• Contractual documentation management
• Risk Management

Desirable candidate would possess
• 2-3 years’ experience with Tier 1 rail contractor or infrastructure providers (eg: NR, TFL)
• Looking to progress a long-term commercial career within Balfour Beatty following the Balfour Beatty Commercial development programme.
• Quantity Surveying Degree Educated. Desire to work towards professional accreditation (eg: RICS, ICES).
• Subcontractor management experience in Civil Engineering sector
• A positive can-do attitude to customer service, problem solving and meeting deadlines
