Bridgeway Consulting offers a full engineering consultancy service covering all aspects of railway infrastructure including Geomatics, Site and Ground Investigations, Civil Engineering Consultancy & Permanent Way Projects, Rail Training and Competence, Assurance and Compliance, Track Access & Isolations and Cable Theft Security.
We have a new opportunity for a Quantity Surveyor to join Bridgeway Consulting at our head office in Nottingham.
Role Purpose
To maximise the successful running and commercial control of each project. Accurate management of projects through reporting and decision making regarding on-site activities to enable the project team to achieve best value and manage costs.
Key Accountabilities
1. Tender Stage:
• Careful review of tender documents to identify exact requirements and identify potential issues
• Provide a detailed “take off” and Bill of Quantities, if and when required.
• Manage subcontractors enquiries, together with specifications, prelims elements and appropriate drawings. Monitor enquiry process and dates for quotation returns.
• Attend pre-tender meetings and take minutes.
2. Finance and Contract Costs:
• Prepare and manage project budget costs.
• Prepare plant and labour budgets.
• Assist in the preparation of reports for contract review meetings.
• Prepare cost reports as required.
• Forecast costs within reports – project actual cost against planned costs to provide accurate forecasts with which to manage the project performance.
• Prepare and submit monthly Application for Payments, including all supporting information for variations and measurement.
• Manage variations and compensation events ensuring all additional works are correctly recorded in line with the contract, and adequate records are maintained to ensure full revenue recovery.
• In conjunction with the Project Manager, compile, submit and negotiate agreement of the final contract account.
• Submission of Work In Progress figures for monthly finance reports
3. Sub-Contract:
• Preparation of sub-contract documents to allow the appointment of subcontractors.
• Attend sub-contractor pre-contract meetings along with the Contracts Manager to ensure prospective sub-contractors are fully compliant.
• Manage sub-contractors once appointed including:
o Measurement of sub-contract works.
o Check and approve sub-contractors claims for payment.
o Liaise with sub-contractors to resolve queries.
o Hold regular meetings with sub-contractors to review and agree progress and/or change the sub-contract.
o Settlement of sub-contract final accounts.
4. Client Relations and Contractors Support:
• Represent the company at project review meetings with the clients.
• Attend client’s pre-contract meetings.
• Prepare contractual claims that may arise and negotiate acceptable settlement.
• Measure of all elements of the project works and agree them with clients Quantity Surveyor on an ongoing basis.
• Provide cost and contractual advice to project and site team.
5. General:
• Carry out other duties as are consistent with the job-holder’s knowledge and skills and as necessary for the satisfactory completion of contracts or for attainment of the goals of the business.
• Knowledge and skills:
o Understanding of Railway, Civils, Ground or Earth works
o Commercial awareness
o Sound understanding of NEC and ICC contracts
o Good IT skills including competence in MS Project
