Quantity Surveyor in Cardiff, Cardiff, United Kingdom
My client in South Wales is continuing to see an increase in its order books covering both the rail and civils sectors. To assist and maximise their potential, they are seeking a Quantity Surveyor to join them.
As the successful applicant you will have gained experience in the UK Rail sector, and will have been required to work to NR and NEC3 forms of contract as well as bespoke variants.
A bit about the job
- Your day to day activities will include but will not be limited to the following;
- Understanding, preparing and presenting monthly cost/value (CVR’s) and/or work in progress
- (WIP’s) reports with input and assistance from the Project Team.
- Experience of working with, negotiating and understanding the Network Rail suite of ICC contracts
- and NEC contracts.
- Preparation of monthly cost plans identifying and providing justification for periodic or completion
- Regular communication and liaison with the project team to identify and manage both contractors
- and client risk.
- Ability to prioritise and schedule workload enabling the meeting of external and internal submission
- deadlines such as NR application submission dates and CGR period end reporting dates and
- Enthusiasm and commitment to work alongside colleagues in a joint effort to drive the business
- Working collaboratively with the department and project teams to ensure contract administration
- and internal processes are improved and maintained to the maximum standard.
- Understanding and experience in the use of MS Project to interpret project programmes and critical
- paths
- Producing, submitting, substantiating and agreeing monthly Applications for Payment to the point of
- Positively maintaining and building relationships with our existing clients and supply chain.
- Awareness and monitoring of all site activities on allocated projects in order to influence decision-
- making from a commercial perspective.
- Producing, submitting, substantiating and negotiating external Final Accounts.
- Subcontract administration including but not limited to procurement, management, administration
- and Final Account agreement.
- Ability to identify, quantify, value, submit and manage change requests/compensation event
- through to agreement with our clients.
Experience Required
As the successful applicant you will present the following experience and understanding;
- A record of success as a Quantity Surveyor within both the rail and civil engineering industry.
- Understanding and experience in operating a project management software package such as
- CEMAR, and document software such as Microsoft Teams/sharepoint.
- Computer literate with good working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
- Good interpersonal communication, listening, and negotiation skills
- Confidence in providing good quality written and oral communication.
- A Degree in Quantity Surveying or similar
- MRICS qualified or a commitment to professionally develop
