The Role
An opportunity has arisen for a Quantity Surveyor to join the TRU East Alliance project team responsible for the delivery of works through GRIP 5-8 stages.
Key Accountabilities
The mission of the TRU East Alliance is to transform the East of Leeds route allowing people to travel faster, more reliably and in greater comfort between the North's great cities. Providing passengers with more choice, more seats and better facilities on a safer, cleaner, more environmentally friendly railway.
Working in-conjunction with the commercial team, key duties will include:
- Production of monthly accounting, costing, contract, management and financial information on a timely basis for inclusion in the monthly accounts package.
- Briefing the Project Manager on the bill of quantities, specification and contractual implications of ongoing and new projects.
- Liaison with the Project Managers, regarding ongoing costs, current position and variations in contracts.
- The monitoring of costs against tender/contract specifications and agreements. Advising the Senior QS immediately of any major problem areas.
- Liaison with Clients giving and receiving costing information with regard to ongoing contracts, notifying clients using the appropriate methods of any variations to cost or specification and gaining the relevant authorisation. Raising any variation orders or claims as appropriate.
- Ensuring the Company's contractual obligations with regard to cost control is met, using the appropriate standards and methods.
- Assisting the Senior Quantity Surveyor in the preparation of tender enquiries, responses and the determination of the Company's charging structures.
- Responsible for preparing and producing Alliance commercial reports relating to AFC management, forecast / actual cost variances, earned value management, change management.
- Liaison with multiple Alliance partners to ensure a win win approach for all participants.
Skills & Experience
Considerable and demonstrable experience in a commercial role is an essential requirement for this role.
You will ideally be educated to degree level or equivalent in Quantity Surveying, will have worked closely with both clients and suppliers and will have managed the interfaces within project teams.
Additionally, you will have the following experience/skill set:
- Proficient in MS office applications (Microsoft Word & Excel)
- Influencing and negotiation skills
- Ability to work effectively under time constraints
- Effective Communicator
- Analytical approach to problem solving
