Quantity Surveyor in Manchester, Greater Manchester, United Kingdom
ARM are working with a client side rail business to help them recruit a Quantity Surveyor for an initial 6 month contract. This role can be based from either Birmingham, Manchester or Stockport.
This role will allow you to be partly based working from home, with the requirement to office based 3 days per week. Applicants will need to be within a commutable distance of one of the above offices.
Suitable applicants will ideally have prior experience gained working for or seconded into a client side rail business.
A bit about the job
As the Quantity Surveyor you will be responsible for carrying out and assisting with the following;
- Production and delivery of estimating and/or costing for delivery solutions in line with contract brief and budget.
- Monitor project and/or financial performance and ensure robust forecasting.
- Ensure that all financial systems are updated to time, cost and quality, appropriate KPI's.
- Manage and implement targets to ensure that non-performance identified and benchmarking in place.
- Responsible for internal and external stakeholder engagement relating directly to the project.
- Evaluate and measure the works within the contracted scope; undertake periodic valuations of works in progress as required. Prepare certificates for payment as required.
- Negotiate and agree payments.
- Establish whether instructions are variations to contract and negotiate value.
- Assist in preparation of estimates for works. Input cost/quantity information into estimating systems and produce reports.
- Manage contractor’s day-to-day commercial issues.
- Prepare project budget and detailed estimates. Cost plan as necessary during development to meet financial targets.
- Prepare final accounts, including validation of contractor submissions by measurement and quantification.
- Assist in preparation of tender, pricing and contract documentation. Carry out cost analysis of tenders.
- Input data related to contracts into the company’s project management reporting system.
- Undertake under CDM Regulations, as role of Client Representative, Designer and CDM Co-ordinator on behalf of Network Rail in line with company standards.
Experience Required
- Educated to degree level or equivalent
- Training for MRICS qualification
- Strong negotiation skills
- Strong understanding of construction industry forms of contract
- Experience of managing investment projects
The following are desirable
- MRICS qualified
- Full Driving Licence
- Understanding of rail industry issues in relation to construction
