Senior Quantity Surveyor - Contract or Perm - Rail Civils in London, London, United Kingdom


Leading main contracting organisation with a long history of delivering building and civils project in the UK rail industry seeks to employ a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join their team in London. This leading brand is happy to consider candidates on a contract or permanent basis.


This is an excellent opportunity for a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join a company who highly value their staff and who have secured a large order book of work to cover several years to come.


Reporting into a very supportive and proactive Commercial Manager, the Senior Quantity Surveyor will be responsible for the commercial delivery of a variety of building and civils projects valued between £100,000 to £30million around London and the South East. You will work in collaboration with a close-knit programme team including Project Managers, clients, Stakeholders and designers.


Responsibilities:

  • Take full accountability for the financial performance of your projects, Ensuring the contract is administered appropriately at all times
  • Ensure contractual timescales are adhered to
  • Ensure that change control is administered properly in accordance with the timescales of the contract with weekly reminders sent to the project team including our customer Network Rail
  • Effective management of risk and opportunity and sharing of best practice with the development and project team
  • All cost plans to be in place within 2 weeks of contract award
  • Target 3% efficiency savings on all projects and record the data on the efficiency saving register
  • Ensure profit target are achieved as set out in the Gateway 7 and business plan
  • Ensure subcontract scoring is completed on all projects that are "live"
  • Ensure Applications for Payment are accurate and our cash position is maximised at all opportunities taking into account actual costs and accruals.
  • Attend weekly project meetings
  • Ensure the Project Execution Plan (PEP) is fully up to date on all projects and completed within 2 weeks of contract award
  • Ensure pre tender subcontract meetings are taking place on all projects
  • Ensure the monthly reporting is completed on time and uploaded to our Coins system with a full CVR commentary for all live projects to be uploaded.
  • Ensure all Supplier payments are approved within the contractual timescales


To be considered for the role of Senior Planner candidates will have:

  • Ideally degree qualified in a commercial or engineering subject.
  • Experience of working in a main contracting environment within the railway
  • Track record in successfully managing and delivering against deadlines
  • Evidence of building effective relationships with teams
  • Experience and knowledge of construction industry - awareness of current techniques.
  • Has worked in a rail environment and been responsible for, commercial performance using NEC forms of contract
  • Knowledge of Network Rail processes and assurance procedures.
