We are working with a multi-disciplinary engineering consultancy that now has a fantastic opportunity for a Topographical Surveyor to join their Rail team in York. Your job will be to undertake high accuracy rail surveys (and non-rail), installation of control networks, traversing, levelling, laser scanning and structure gauging.
Role responsibilities:
- Assist in planning and managing survey resources for site works
- Comply with and assist in the fulfilment of all company quality and H&S principles
- Work to technical workscopes to achieve the targets set for delivery of projects to current engineering and safety standards within agreed timescales and budgets
- Advise on any innovations which may be brought in to improve the efficiency of survey operations
- Assist the Principal Surveyor in the development of clear technical workscopes for inclusion in work packages and ITT’s to other sub contractors.
- Mentoring and Coaching of Junior Staff within the Survey team
- Accountability for results – Takes responsibility for results and delivery. Consistent in achieving targets

- Customer focus - Interested in providing good customer service, and demonstrated by their work and the team performance. Proactively develop good internal and external client relationships
Key skills/experience:
- Incorporated or Chartered Engineer or Surveyor (or equivalent)
- Familiarity with Trimble and Leica Survey Equipment
- Awareness of contract conditions
- Appreciation of safety implications of working practices and understanding of site responsibilities
- Good commercial awareness including programming and delivery to budgets/timescales
- Planning and executing - Can manage a number of activities, a long-term planner able to track & update & inform, identifies risks. Effectively manage subcontractors and develop subcontractor relationships
- Self development & developing others - Takes a positive view of own development and uses appropriate tools to support development. Looks to develop others in a positive manner and act as a mentor. Continuous improvement part of work ethos. Assist developing expertise of other team members.
- Networking – Makes use of contacts to support business goals on a consistent basis
