The Survey section within the Site Services team is responsible for topographic and some P-Way survey elements of the organisations Rail and Construction projects.
Responsibilities
- To assist the Survey Manager in leading and directing surveyor team(s), work winning and pricing jobs.
- Managing the project from start up to delivery - act as project engineer on surveys
- To assist the Survey Manager within growth of the group and any other services.
- Assist the Survey Manager with surveying works and data delivery
- Ensure the Subcontractors have the correct technical competence in order to deliver requirements to quality
- Plan and manage Survey resources for Site Works.
- Ensure that the projects are delivered to engineering and safety standards, within time & budget
- Provide the Survey Manager with ideas and advice in all areas of surveying to
- Periodically carry out on site audits of survey staff and subcontractors.
- Management of team resource to manage survey equipment including storage, calibration, allocation repair & replacement to the requirements of the company procedure.
- Assist Survey Manager in the development of fee bids.
- Assist Department Heads and Survey Manager in the development clear technical work scopes for inclusion in work packages and ITT’s to other subcontractors.
- Apply procedures and systems to ensure the safety of staff, and others
- Mentoring and coaching junior staff within the Survey team.
About You
- In-depth knowledge of surveying principles and standards
- Detailed knowledge of construction principles and standards
- Detailed knowledge of safety standards
- Good understanding of Network Rail processes and standards
- Incorporated or Chartered Engineer or Surveyor (Desirable)
- Awareness of contract conditions
- Appreciation of safety implications of working practices and understanding of site responsibilities
- Good commercial awareness including programming and delivery to budgets/timescales
- Ability to manage a number of activities, a long-term planner able to track & update & inform, identifies risks. Effectively manage subcontractors and develop subcontractor relationships
- Takes responsibility for results and delivery. Consistent in achieving targets
- Contributes positively to change, supports new ideas, raises some ideas of their own and able to contribute positively to the solution
- Interested in providing good customer service, and demonstrated by their work and the team performance. Proactively develop good internal and external client relationships
- Takes a positive view of own development and uses appropriate tools to support development. Looks to develop others in a positive manner and act as mentor. Continuous improvement part of work ethos. Assist developing expertise of other team members.
- Ability to communicate with tact and diplomacy, complete good quality reports and paperwork. Have good command of written and spoken English
- Ability to work effectively with minimum supervision, provide added value in addition to current work. Work based on providing solutions to issues
