Role Purpose
• The individual will be responsible for leading on site data capture activities using UAV platforms, (currently the DJI Matrice 210 RTK) under an existing PfCO, managing a Technician or Graduate in a two person team and assisting Project Managers with the data processing. The Pilot will manage complex survey tasks and organise personnel for a particular project. They will provide assistance in tendering and feasibility studies when asked by their Manager. The individual should provide in depth technical support and guidance to the team and clients.
• The individual will be heavily involved in the processing and presentation to clients of the data captured on site, supported by the wider Geomatics Team. Data may include photography and video, photogrammetric pointclouds, thermal imaging, hyperspectral and multispectral imaging and LiDAR. Experience of photogrammetric survey data processing is required.
• A good knowledge of survey first principles is required, including an appreciation of different types of survey grids and accuracy requirements.
• The individual will be heavily involved in planning flight campaigns, as supported by the wider team. This will include site visits and assessments, and the production of the relevant safety documentation.
• The individual will be involved in research and development activities with support from the wider business. This may involve research into hardware, software, processes and practices both emerging and current.
• The individual will be required to undertake responsibility for specific survey and inspection projects.
• The individual will be required to keep the Safety Management System updated after each mission.
Key Accountabilities
• Lead teams and be responsible for UAV piloting and data capture operations on projects, delivering to time and quality required.
• Use equipment in the correct manner and ensure it is clean and functional on completion of the operation.
• Carry out data capture tasks to the specified level of accuracy.

• Manage Technicians and Graduates during “on-site” surveys, advising and operating or setting up equipment if required.
• Carry out data processing and validation to required specification.
• Support the development of Technicians and Graduates.
• Be proactive in seeking advice from Project Manager(s) and Senior Surveyor(s) to develop their own skills.
• Produce site records as required using the in-house CRM system.
• Liaise with all outside parties in advance of the works to ensure no delays once on site.
• Provide technical support for the department in staying updated on the latest UAV airframe and payload innovations.
• Maintain recency for the relevant CAA permissions.
• Undertake other duties in accordance with the requirements of the Company.
The individual must ensure that:
• All equipment is to be checked before proceeding to site and is in calibration for each site activity.
• All maintenance related issues are reported to the Accountable Manager.
• The relevant documentation is produced in preparation for site works and approved by the required level of management.
• Site documentation is valid and correct for all works in the field before leaving for site.
• The relevant Project Manager is informed on the on site progress.
• Records are kept up to date within the office in line with company filing procedures.
• Campaigns are completed on time, with any changes on site recorded.
• Data is checked, signed and approved before being sent to customers in accordance with deadlines.
