The role

An opportunity has arisen for a Project Engineer (Temporary Works Co-ordinator) to join the TRU East Alliance project team responsible for the delivery of site works on Project E1 through GRIP 5-8 stages. The position is based at Ulleskelf depot (moving to Gascoigne Wood) with travel between project sites as required.

The mission of the TRU East Alliance is to transform the East of Leeds route allowing people to travel faster, more reliably and in greater comfort between the North's great cities. Providing passengers with more choice, more seats and better facilities on a safer, cleaner, more environmentally friendly railway.

The Temporary Works Coordinator manages all types of temporary works and delegates and organises tasks to align with the temporary works schedule. The role is responsible for making sure the temporary works are procured, designed, constructed, inspected and decommissioned and checked to ensure they are safe. The job role also involves regular liaison with the Buried Services Coordinator, CREs (Design and Construction) and the Temporary Works Designer. Manages Temporary Works Supervisors.

Key accountabilities

• Ensure that appropriate alliancing behaviours and 'best for project' principles are always adopted, leading by example in the pursuit of successful delivery of the Programme to the benefit of all Alliance Partners.

• Coordinate all Temporary Works activities for Project E1 In accordance with BS5975 and PC Representative's Company Procedures for Temporary Works (JMS)

• Ensure that a detailed design brief has been produced and is in accordance with the actual situation on site.

• Advise the temporary works designer (TWD) of any temporary conditions, or loads, that should be considered and ensure that a satisfactory Temporary Works design is carried out.

• Ensure that the design is independently reviewed and is compliant with all relevant and associated standards.

• Ensure Temporary Works documentation is adequately maintained and is auditable.

• Ensure that those responsible for on-site supervision receive full design details, with significant risks and design limitations highlighted.

• Ensure that checks are made at appropriate stages covering the more critical factors.

• Ensure that any proposed changes in materials or construction are checked against the original design and appropriate action taken.

• Make sure that any agreed changes are correctly carried out on site.

• Ensure that during use all appropriate maintenance and routine inspection is carried out.

• Monitor and ensure that the appropriate criteria is achieved that allows the temporary works to be removed.

• When it has been confirmed that the temporary works are no longer required ensure formal permission to dismantle the Temporary Works is obtained.

• To comply with all relevant standards, policies, and procedures.

• Undertake any other reasonable duties in line with the needs of the project and the wider TRU East programme.

• Alliance line management responsibilities.

• Contribute to estimating and procurement

Skills & experience

• Educated to HNC/HND level or equivalent qualification.

• Chartered Engineer preferred

• CSCS Card.

• CITB Temporary Works Coordinator Course

• Experience in design construction and maintenance of railway infrastructure projects.

• IIOSH preferred

• An understanding of commercial elements of a project.

• Working knowledge of MS Office products, preferably Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and other applications.

• Ability to prioritise and manage a diverse workload.

• Personal resilience and ability to thrive in a challenging and fast-moving environment.

• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team and able to seek out opportunities for improvement.
