The Permanent Way/Track Designer is responsible for:
- Playing a key role in the design of railway alignment, trackform and ducting route;
- Playing a key role in the design of tram systems discipline (Telecoms, Power Supply, Signalling, Interface Management;
- Working closely with engineers and discipline leads to deliver an integrated design; and
- Supervising and preparing CAD models, drawings and deliverables.

Missions & Main Activities
We are currently expanding in the UK and Ireland, growing our business and our team. One of the exciting projects the Permanent Way/Track Designer will work on relates to the execution of the Birmingham tramway network extension contract. The aim of this once-renewable five-year contract is to construct 4 km of new line in the coming three years (three extensions) and an additional 15 km in the following five years (one additional line).
Our rapid expansion includes working with West Midland Combined Authority in a partnership agreement called "The Midland Metro Alliance" which brings together the Prime Contractor, the Construction Consortium and the Engineering Office and leading The Design Manage Service for Network Rail.

Key Responsibilities
The main duties and responsibilities of the Permanent Way/Track Designer are:
- Producing track alignment design (light rail and heavy rail) and associated grading plus drainage;
- Producing switch and crossing and plain line track design;
- Producing technical drawings using relevant CAD/BIM software with relevant drawing standards;
- Using software to create detailed 2D or 3D models for complex projects;
- Producing technical drawings from conceptual sketches and engineering notes;
- Supporting engineers with the development of design solutions;
- Delivering CAD activities to the agreed time, cost and quality requirements;
- Mentoring junior CAD technicians;
- Carrying out other activities related to multi-disciplinary rail projects.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential - Unfortunately, we will not be able to progress applications unless they demonstrate the following essential criteria:
- Knowledge of Bentley Rail Track, PowerRail or Open Rail;
- Knowledge of AutoCAD and MicroStation;
- Knowledge and experience of the Network Rail standards and processes;
Other required qualifications and experience
- BSc or other relevant degree;
- Knowledge of Civil 3D will be considered a plus;
- Experience of working in the railway sector;
- Experience of working in a BIM environment;
- Notions or knowledge of French will be considered a plus.
