Principal Track Engineer - London/York/Manchester
This role will be critical to successful delivery of projects to budget and timescales. As Team grows this role may include responsibility for leading a small team of engineers and designers.
The Principal Track Engineer reports to the Track Design Lead and collaborates with all stake-holders cross discipline to achieve ‘best for project’ outcomes.
The role will require building relationships with your track discipline colleagues in both Australia and North America.
Responsibilities:
- Managing the delivery of projects in respect of quality, time and financial aspects to meet the client’s objectives and requirements.
- Client liaison on track projects - Maintain client contact and ensure that project delivery meets the client’s objectives and requirements.
- Assisting the Track Design Lead with business development and marketing including proposal preparation, winning of new projects and assisting in the development of new client streams.
- Maintain a high level of technical competence.
- Develop or verify the technical scope of a project.
- Lead track design coordination meetings and address critical issues that impact other disciplines.
- Ensure all requirements including specifications and standards are integrated into the project.
- Ensure quality controls processes are being followed.
- Technical direction of engineering and drafting teams. Ensuring that the technical content of all work carried out is correct and completed in accordance within agreed timescales and budgets.
- Support to other offices on track and other projects.
- Mentoring and development of less experienced Track Engineers and Technicians.
Specific experience, skills & knowledge
- Considerable experience in the development and design of track including complex alignments, junctions, turnouts and crossovers.
- Minimum of 12 years of broad and extensive technical design, administrative and project experience.
- Candidates should be able to present their understanding of how other rail disciplines may influence the successful implementation of their design ideas.
- You will be conversant with common UK track design standards, Eurocodes and leading industry analysis and design software including Bentley MicroStation and OpenRail and will be willing to review other countries standards as required.
- Experience of working within a 3D design environment is essential and an ability to work to BIM protocols would be desirable.
- Application of Engineering principles.
- Experience and understanding of multi-disciplinary design process.
- Experience in leading and managing complex design projects.
Qualifications / skills
- Honours Degree in relevant subject.
- Chartered Engineer or near Chartership.
- Ability to work on own initiative and seek assistance when required.
- Ability to organise and prioritise workload to ensure that timescales and budgets are met, and to deal with uncertainty, changing and multiple priorities.
- Take responsibility for personal development and support the learning of others.
- Project a professional image to clients and colleagues.
- Able to work collaboratively to form strong working relationships with colleagues and clients.
