Do you want to work on a high- profile project in the rail industry like Wales and Borders?
Here at Amey we support the multi-billion-pound contract to run the Wales and Borders train service and to develop the Cardiff Central Metro. We will work closely with TfW to deliver a new era for passengers and for Wales, with more services, newer trains, better stations and a more reliable network. We will continue to provide support to TfW Ltd in delivering key projects such as the introduction of new rolling stock and the construction of the £738m South Wales Metro (SWM) transport project, a planned multi-modal transport system, which incorporates trains, light rail and bus services.
What is the purpose of this role?
• Lead the Engineering activities for the allocated projects to facilitate conformance to the contract specification and delivery required to meet the programme timescales.
• To manage and deliver the engineering aspects of allocated Package Works for W&B Transformation and any other works allocated in and effective manner, conforming to contract specification.
• To support the Engineering Team to ensure timely reporting and proper management of project assurance and compliance to current legislation and standards.
• Develop and maintain positive working relationship with the Project Team, Client and stakeholders through collaborative working.
What will this role involve?
• Manage the engineering activity on allocated projects including support for design reviews; communication and consultation with other functions (design, install and test) over changes; and interfaces with other disciplines (including facilitating inter-disciplinary check meetings).
• Act as Contractors Responsible Engineer as proposed by the nominated CEM where required.
• Advise the Programme Engineering Manager on the engineering resource required to deliver the project plan, and provide engineering review of the method statements and risk assessments proposed for the work where required
• Support the EM in accepting design submissions.
• Carry out and record briefings of technical updates to the project team, including sub-contractors, promote best practice and pro-actively identify to resource owners additional training requirements and development opportunities.
• Ensure that materials are specified correctly, orders are placed to meet the project programme and that an up to date material schedule is maintained for the project.
• Produce and implement an in process inspection and surveillance regime consistent with company standards and project requirements.
• Provide sufficient site support to the project team (Package Manager, site supervisors, resource providers and sub-contractors) throughout the works to ensure that critical engineering decisions can be made in a timely manner and that issues arising can be dealt with to ensure compliance with a minimum of re-work.
• Lead and manage the engineering disciplines.
What are we looking for?
o Proven track record in Track and is likely to have in excess of five years experience at a Project Enginering level.
o Good understanding of the construction / railway industry.
o Understanding of Railway Planning systems
o Knowledge of Health and Safety at Work Act and CDM Regulations
o Knowledge of accident investigation techniques
o Highly effective motivator with strong written and spoken communication skills and capable of interfacing at all levels in the organisation.
o Exhibit behaviours that will support and develop collaborative working.
o Good management skills
o Understanding commercial processes and requirements.
o It should be noted that this post will entail an amount of out of hours and weekend working
