The role
An opportunity has arisen for a Senior Engineer - Track (CRE) to join the TRU East Alliance project team responsible for the delivery of site works on Project E1 through GRIP 5-8 stages. The position is based at Gascoigne Wood with travel between project sites as required.
The mission of the TRU East Alliance is to transform the East of Leeds route allowing people to travel faster, more reliably and in greater comfort between the North's great cities. Providing passengers with more choice, more seats and better facilities on a safer, cleaner, more environmentally friendly railway.
Key accountabilities
The main responsibilities are as follows:
- Responsible for managing a team of junior engineering staff who will provide technical assistance to the Production Teams.
- Act as CEM for your particular project
- Act as CRE for your technical discipline where appropriate to a project
- Mentor and assist junior engineers in the accurate setting out of data provided.
- Checking the integrity of the data either by practical or theoretical means.
- Cross reference the setting out data.
- Supervision of assembly process.
- Produce a plan of the works to be carried out by the engineering staff.
- Check site measurement for QS purposes.
- Recording data for record and Quality Assurance purposes. ('As Builts').
- Develop a system to maintaining equipment to good working order.
- Carry out and record periodic checks in line with Company procedures.
- Audit equipment used by the engineers to ensure calibration and certificated and ensure security and safety of such.
- Produce and maintain up to date Engineering Procedures.
- Responsible for operating within the practice and procedures of the quality system.
- Alerting Senior Management, QA Manager to any non-conformance or deficiency in quality, materials, services or workmanship.
- Assist the Engineering Manager in the mentoring and development of Junior Engineering staff.
- Liaison and communication with VolkerRail staff and contractors plus all relevant external contacts as required in order to discharge the duties and responsibilities of this JD/SRS.
- The discharge of these safety critical duties and responsibilities within this JD/SRS and any other safety critical competencies are mandatory upon the post holder.
Skills & experience
The successful candidate must have significant and demonstrable experience in leading track engineering teams to deliver large multidisciplinary projects and a working knowledge of applying 'NR/L2/TRK/2102 Design and Construction of track' on Network Rail projects.
You will possess a 'can-do' attitude, excellent organisational ability and have working knowledge of client and industry interfaces and practices.
You must have a full driving licence, be self-motivated, flexible and have a proactive approach to work. It is a requirement that you have an Engineering degree. Incorporated Engineer status or evidence of working towards it would be an advantage.
