RailCorp is the owner and operator of Sydneys suburban and CountryLink rail network. They currently employ over 15,000 people across Sydney and offer their employees job security and long term career development opportunities.
Constantly striving for innovative improvement to their infrastructure, they have recently unveiled a $225 million project to install a new Digital Train Radio System (DTRS). IT is expected that the DTRS system will provide tangible quality and reliability benefits for on-board train communications. RailCorp will provide design and engineering support for DTRS and have created five new positions to facilitate this.
The GSM-R Design Engineer, Radio Access Network and Infrastructure will be accountable for all design, engineering and ongoing continuous improvements associated with the Base Station Subsystem. This will include all infrastructure and supporting facilities required for the implementation of GSM-R networking such as communications facilities, AC/DC power supply systems, earthing and lightning protection systems, optical fibre and cable network systems, tunnel systems, MPLS based backhaul connectivity and towers and masts
Being the Engineering Design Authority for this specialist area, this post is responsible for a range of range of engineering services for the BSS system including BSC, BTS and all GSM-R infrastructure required for the deployment of the GSM-R network. It will be necessary for the post holder to conduct design reviews, feasibility studies, investigation, concept and detailed designs and maintenance engineering. Suitable applicants will require relevant experience in this technical area along with previous design and implementation experience of 2G/2.5G GSM-R telecom technology.
