We are seeking a dynamic and experienced engineer to join us at this exciting time as Fleet Engineer, with the prime purpose of developing and delivering technical innovation and improvement in the performance and customer presentation of Merseyrails Class 507/508 fleet of trains.
As a direct report to the Engineering Director, and member of the Engineering Senior Management team, you will have responsibility for devising solutions to product and vehicle reliability issues. Not only will you be a key player in delivering current fleet strategy, but you will also work with key stakeholders in influencing and shaping plans for future fleet replacement. Key responsibilities of this role include:
• Lead and manage the Birkenhead North Depot technical team, delivering technical support and expertise to the depot production staff and management
• Develop best practice asset management of the Merseyrail fleet to meet the on-going needs of the fleet, maintain asset condition and deliver optimal whole-life costs
• Engage with and influence key stakeholders in the development of plans for fleet replacement
• Production and analysis of fleet performance data, providing detailed information that enables informed decisions to be reached to address reliability issues
• Undertake feasibility studies, condition assessments, whole-life cost modelling and prepare business cases in support of fleet reliability and enhancement proposals
• Develop instructions, bulletins, fault finding guides, inspection and test equipment to assist in fault diagnosis and defect rectification
• Deliver the programme of fleet enhancement modifications, including preparation of designs, technical instructions and engineering change submissions
• Liaise with suppliers in the investigation of product defect and failure and in the development of product improvements
• Provide project management in the formulation and on-time delivery of rail vehicle modification and other related projects
• Keep abreast of modern products and technologies that may have applicability for use in the field of rail vehicle maintenance, monitoring, overhaul and refurbishment
EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED
• High standard of general education
• Significant experience in rail vehicle engineering in a technical and/or depot management role
• The ability to lead by personal example, motivating and engaging with the depot technical team in developing innovative solutions
• Strong, engaging interpersonal and communication skills
• Proven track record of project management, delivering to time, cost and quality
• Ability to engage and influence key stakeholders
QUALIFICATIONS DESIRED
• Qualifications and/or experience leading to membership of an Engineering Institution
