Duty Operations Controller/Shunter
Location: Camden, Greater London
West Midlands Trains' are looking to recruit a Duty Operations Controller/Shunter to join our Client's Engineering team based at Camden Depot.
PLEASE NOTE: This role involves shifts and weekends and you will be required to wear uniform. All successful new entrants will be required to undergo a criminal records check, Right to Work verification, referencing and full medical assessment including a drug and alcohol screen.
In this role you will undertake the safe shunting of Traction and Rolling Stock within the depot boundary in accordance with Industry Group Standards and Depot Operating Instructions. You will comply with instructions, rules and regulations. In addition, you are required to mentor all trainees in line with minder requirements, playing an active role in ensuring that traction leaves the depot on time, to plan and in the correct formation. You will also complete the safe movements, servicing and preparation of all traction within competence whilst also undertaking any task in which you are competent, including light maintenance. You will play an active role in maintaining the safety culture of the carriage sidings.
Responsibilities:
1. Work to the instruction of the Depot Manger or Depot Operations Controller as directed and within competence
2. Ensure your personal safety and the safety of others at all times, report any close calls, safety opportunities and accidents/incidents through the correct process
3. Ensure that all traction movements are safe and comply with training, local instructions, rules and regulations. Ensure clear and concise communications with Drivers and Signalmen
4. Undertake the shunting of vehicles arriving at and departing the depot complex, in accordance with the current rules and regulations as specified in the Industry Group Standard and Depot Operating Instructions
5. Prepare, marshal and dispose of all traction which arrives and departs the depot. Prepare all traction which are ready for service
6. Book out through the correct process consumables from the stores and notify the Depot Manager if any replenishment is required
7. Keep the place of work clean and tidy at all times, this involves cleaning of the facility
8. Undertake mentoring duties to assist in the training of newly appointed Shunters
9. Accept future technological advancements specific to your duties and the responsibilities of their roles after due consultation and consideration within the agreed procedures, recognising any productivity improvement and with relevant training being provided
10. Maintain shunting competence and notify the Depot Manager or Depot Operations Controller immediately of any deficiency shunting competence
11. Carry out the Depot Operations Controller role as and when required
12. Report any equipment failures at the depot through the correct process
13. Undertake any safety tours as required
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
- An ability to communicate clearly and confidently with all levels of personnel both written and oral
- Demonstrate ability to work on own initiative
- Good interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of CoSHH is desirable
