Operational Support Manager

Contract role

Wembley, London

£38.33 per hour via Umbrella or £29 per hour PAYE

Day shift (may require occasional night/weekend work when required)

Alstom require an Operations Support Manager. The role will be based in Alstom's Wembley Depot (London) with occasional travel to West Coast sites as per business needs. To ensure that production targets, quality standards and safety requirements are achieved through the execution of the production plan and through the efficient management of resources. Ensure that trains are delivered on time in a safe, clean and fully functional condition to our customers.

Principal Accountability's

  • To support the Production teams to ensure targets are met
  • Deputise for the Production Manager and cover the running of shifts where the need arises.
  • Minimise Railway Safety & Quality Issues & maximise depot-operating efficiencies through effective site supervision
  • Ensuring all Production meets the Safety and Quality requirements of internal standards.
  • Monitoring working practices and environment to ensure that people and facilities meet the mandatory and/or statutory requirements.
  • Ensure work is performed in a safe, effective manner and in accordance with the H&S at Work Act, Rules and Regulations, Railway Group Standards, London Underground Standards and ALSTOM Policies and Procedures.
  • On site supervision of staff as directed by the Production Manager on shift
  • Carry out safety conversations with staff and visitors on site to identify and safety concerns. Action any issues raised to resolve concerns in a timely manner
  • Perform quality inspections on incoming goods to avoid bad parts being installed on trains as required
  • Coach the team members to improve on stage checks and manage their time increasing focus on quality
  • Lead QRQCs and feedback to team empowering solutions
  • Deliver and implement improvement plans
  • Increase on close calls, safety conversations and 3P Audits.
  • Carry out product and process audits of planned maintenance activities, casualty repairs and Overhaul Projects.
  • Conduct 3P audits and assist in investigations where unexpected problems arise
  • Assist in identifying and developing long term preventative actions to address route cause of problems in order to save time on rework/once rounds and reduce overtime cost
  • Maintain good industrial relations within area of responsibility, implementing disciplinary procedures for any serious staff irregularities - maintain a well-disciplined work force.
  • Proactive in identifying areas for improvement by personal check, analysis of trains incident reports and complaints, initiating action to ensure improvements. Manage and carry out these investigations.
  • Coach and develop individuals and the teams to improve performance and identify potential.
  • Ensure that where applicable, documented Quality procedures are adhered to.
  • Maintain contact with Train Maintainers/Technicians/Production Managers throughout shift.
  • Deputise for the Production manager and lead shifts where the need arises
  • Production Leaders will support the Production Manager in the delivery of team briefings and communications to the team including start/end of shift briefings
  • Take reasonable care for the health and safety of yourself and of other persons who may be affected by your acts or omissions.
  • Familiarise yourself with relevant company / site safety and environmental procedures and ensure their requirements are implemented in the workplace
  • Comply with any control measures that are implemented as a result of any risk assessment or impact assessment.
  • Participate as required in the risk assessment process.

Knowledge and experience

  • First-hand experience in team management preferably within the maintenance environment.
  • IT literate with knowledge of Office (Excel, word, PPT) & Tablet applications such as IForm
  • Planning and Organisation skills.
  • Plans to meet depot objectives
  • Experience of coaching and mentoring others.
  • Able to work without supervision
  • Able to communicate confidently to all levels of personnel within the organisation
  • Able to work under pressure and within customer constraints
