This role offers £400 per day (Inside IR35) and is critical to the safe and efficient delivery of planned works across the rail infrastructure.You will take ownership of producing compliant Safe System of Work (SSOW) packs, coordinating with project teams, and ensuring all activities are undertaken in line with industry legislation, standards, and best practice.&nbsp;Key Responsibilities<ul><li>Produce accurate and comprehensive SSOW packs to safeguard personnel working on or near the railway.</li><li>Carry out detailed risk assessments, identifying hazards and implementing suitable control measures.</li><li>Liaise closely with project managers, engineers, delivery teams, and external stakeholders to ensure seamless planning and integration.</li><li>Ensure full compliance with all relevant rail safety regulations, standards, and company procedures.</li><li>Provide clear safety briefings and verify team understanding of SSOW requirements.</li><li>Update and adjust SSOW plans to reflect evolving site conditions, programme changes, or regulatory updates.</li><li>Support safety audits, contribute to incident investigations, and promote a proactive safety culture.</li></ul>&nbsp;Key Skills &amp; Qualifications<ul><li>Proven experience producing SSOW packs within the rail sector.</li><li>Valid SSOWP competency (Sentinel).</li><li>Current PTS certification.</li><li>Ability to start at short notice (ideally within one week).</li><li>Strong communication, organisational, and stakeholder management skills.</li></ul>&nbsp;About the EmployerYou will be joining a well‑established civil engineering and rail contractor recognised for delivering complex and safety‑critical infrastructure projects across Scotland and the wider UK. PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:Deliver all aspects of Engineering Access Planning, ensuring the safe, efficient, and cost-effective planning of client engineering access. Deliver the co-ordinated planning, resourcing, and implementation of engineering access in accordance with project timescales and industry standards. To effectively manage resources including quality, safety, time, costs, people, materials, and tools / equipment.AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY / TASKSResponsibility for delivery of engineering access safely, to time and within budgetEnsure the safety culture is authentic zero accident / incidentResponsibility for planning all track access activities and managing the required resourcesResponsibility for compliance with appropriate legislation and standardsEnsure that all resources hold appropriate qualifications / licences for the activities carried outEnsure rework cycles on projects are minimised and lessons learnt are implementedImplementation of approved best practice techniques to ensure standards are maintainedApply appropriate planning, safety, and performance measures to all client engineering possessionsMaintain accurate and detailed records of possession arrangementsProactively deliver track access and operational interface elements of projects within timescales during both planning and implementationEnsure engineering access timescales and critical milestones are metProduce and book robust, safe, deliverable &amp; Experience:Minimum of 5 years railway operations experience of which 2 years should include planning / management of engineering workGood communication skills at all levels of department and other disciplines also customer and suppliersExcellent IT skills (specifically MS Office)The ability to prioritise workload and achieve objectivesA high degree of self-directionCommercial awareness and ability to manage work packages and identify changeA proven track record of delivery, with demonstrable ability to form effective working relationshipsThrough knowledge of the rule book, railway operating rules, regulations for train signalling and group standardsSound working knowledge of engineering access planning tools (including PPS, Green Zone Planner, Sectional Appendix, Train Planning, Electrical Isolation booking process, Engineering Access Statement and on-trac/e-pic systems)Appreciation of ORR Informed Traveller regulations and Network Rail Schedule 4 compensation structure for disruption to Train and Freight Operating CompaniesTechnical competence demonstrable by appropriate SSOW planner licenceHold full UK driving licenceSpecific Health, Safety &amp;
