With a pedigree reaching back into British Rail AECOM has a long history in the signalling discipline. Between the UK&I and our Global Design Centre in India AECOM has a team of 50 signalling designers. In addition, we also have team members in other parts of the world including Spain, Canada, America and Australia.
Our signalling design capability encompasses all project stages from concept through to detailed design with a Client base including Network Rail, Transport for London, West Midlands Combined Authority, NEXUS, Great Western Railway, South West Trains and multiple Principal Contractors. AECOM are also a partner on the recently awarded Rail Systems Alliance South Contract for Network Rail where signalling design forms a key part of the delivery.
We are currently seeking to appoint a Professional Head of Signalling to provide overall leadership to the discipline team. The role is responsible for
Developing and leading our ambition for technical excellence in the signalling discipline that can be embraced by all discipline staff as key to our culture. Leading a team of discipline experts in various locations to provide specialist engineering knowledge.
Leadership, management and development of the competency management system for the discipline.
Lead resource co-ordination across the discipline ( UK and overseas team)
Leadership and development of discipline specific best practice design tools, process and policies.
Leading the technical briefing cascade for the discipline.
Leading assurance activity across the discipline as a mechanism to understand areas of strength and weakness, maintain consistency and disseminate best practice and lessons learned.
Working with the Director of Engineering other Professional Heads and Engineering Managers to provide effective development and deployment of Safe by Design initiatives that ensure our work delivers industry-leading risk management (eg CDM and CSM) outcomes.
Visible leadership of railway engineering both internally and externally to clients, competitors and partner organisations. Act as key interface with relevant Professional Institutions, encouraging all members of the discipline to pursue appropriate qualifications.
Actively engage in the bidding process for new work and building collaborative relationships with supply chain partners.
Contributing to engineering leadership and delivery of key projects within identified region.
Maintain an understanding of the key challenges facing our clients and how engineering leadership and AECOM capabilities can help unlock them.
AECOM is committed to the development of staff through both formal and informal training combined with professional development activities, broad work experience and its accredited IRSE licenced assessors. AECOM are Corporate members of the IET and PWI and have well established links with all other relevant Professional Engineering Institutions. All staff are encouraged to attain Professional Registration at the appropriate level. Minimum Requirements : • Provides engineering technical and management leadership for a discipline or area of responsibility.
• Makes decisions and recommendations that are recognized as authoritative. Initiates and maintains extensive contacts with senior- level engineers within the company and with key engineering officials of other organizations and companies, and is skilled in persuasion and negotiation of critical issues.
• At this level, individuals will have demonstrated creativity, foresight, and mature engineering judgment in anticipating and solving both routine and unusual engineering problems, determining program objectives and requirements, organizing programs and projects, and developing standards and guides for diverse engineering activities.
• Supervision received is essentially administrative with assignments given in terms of broad general objectives and limits.
Preferred Qualifications :
- Chartered Engineer
- Engineering Degree
- Solid experience in design consultancy enviroment delivering signalling projects
