Samuel Knight are currently looking for a Principle Design Engineer in the Stockport Area.

Purpose of the Role

As a Principle Design Engineer, you will be able produce integrated design details and supporting documentation from first principles for a new or altered system within the limits of your Authority to Work, and to confirm that the design meets the requirements specified in the scope of works and the operational, technical and safety principles have been met. You will be able to provide mentorship to junior engineers as a when required.

If a Verifiers License is also held then it is expected verification of the design detail will be carried out in accordance with a limitation of the designers Authority to Work.

Key Areas of Responsibility & Accountability

• Required to act as mentor to other less experienced or junior engineers within the team.
• Carry out independent checks on design work carried out by the team.
• Responsible for the preparation of Outline Project and Signaling Design Specifications.
• To produce pre-feasibility and feasibility reports and present any fundamental findings of the report to the client.
• To assist with Signalling infrastructure condition assessment surveys and site surveys and act as department liaison when other engineering disciplines and client representatives are involved.
• Act as department representative when providing design cover of signalling projects during the commissioning phase. Assist with Testing and Commissioning when required.
• Provide Signalling Design estimates; technical expertise and input for Signalling related proposals for new projects during feasibility and final detailed design stage.
• Represent the company at client meetings.
• As you will expect the organisation may change from time to time and you will be expected to meet the operational requirements.
• Any other reasonable duties as required from time to time.

Person Specification

The job holder will have a background within the Signalling Industry, including excellent technical design knowledge.

Qualifications/Experience

• Experienced Signalling Principles Design with the relevant Principles and Verifier licenses (or working towards).
• Experience of producing Network Rail Grip 3-5 signalling design deliverables.
• Minimum of HNC Degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering.
• Membership of IRSE is desirable.
• Engineering focused
• Awareness of cross discipline engineering issues

• Has an understanding of commercial principles
• Has experience of building cross-discipline and external relationships
• Have the ability to manage and work on multiple projects simultaneously, at a very fast pace with tight deadlines.
