The role:
We are looking for an experienced leader to drive change and foster a continuous improvement mindset for our employees and contractors.
In this client side role will see you lead and develop a team of over 45 staff including Technical Leads, Production Managers, Supervisors, Signal Maintenance Technicians and Works Assistants. This is a great opportunity to build on your management career by working closely with the team to improve processes and create work practises that will improve the performance of our network.

Key responsibilities:
• Manage the business to deliver maintenance for the Technical Maintenance Plan that meets the required standard within the available budget
• Drive business maintenance improvement to modernise the business for the future, through improved work practices, staffing and technology
• Ensure that the maintenance practices meet all legislative and regulatory requirements, as well as relevant maintenance standards and processes
• Ensure that maintenance objectives are championed throughout the various business interfaces
• Ensure correct tools and equipment are appropriately audited, certified, maintained and utilised for work and all equipment, materials and emergency items are assembled and accessible on the job
• Manage additional contract resources in order to deliver works including requisition, procurement, cost analysis in line with budget, performance, safety and quality in accordance with the client’s contractor management procedures
• Lead and drive performance and accountability through visualisation meetings
• Manage depots (or part thereof) that their team utilises including compliance, safety and 5S processes
Ideally you will have the following qualifications, skills and experience: (desirable)
• Tertiary qualification in Engineering appropriate for admission to the Institute of Engineers Australia
• Post-graduate qualifications in management or asset management
• Extensive experience leading a large rail maintenance business in an operating rail environment
• Experience leading large teams that self-perform rail maintenance work
• Proven experience of managing $10m+ budgets, including direct commercial, budget and planning accountability
• Experience delivering large business turn-around changes
• Experience leading teams in a unionised environment
• Experience managing contractors to perform works, including commercial and contract administration
• Ability to lead and engage large teams of direct staff
