Samuel Knight are currently looking for a Signaling Engineer in the Kings Norton Area.
Purpose of the Role
Support the Signalling Manager in delivery of signalling projects, leading and directing the overall engineering activities, ensuring timely completion of signalling work, whilst maintaining the integrity and security of signalling equipment. Undertake liaison with Design, Testing staff and Subcontractors to ensure that all installation related issues are resolved in a timely and cost effective manner.

Key Areas of Responsibility & Accountability
- Direct the overall engineering activities of Signalling Installation Teams, particularly ensuring high safety standards are adhered to by ensuring compliance with Rules and Regulations.
- Liaise with Sub-Contractors, Designers and Testers to ensure that installation related issues are resolved in a timely and cost-effective manner.
- Ensure staff attitudes to personal safety and all requirements to the Health & Safety at Work regulations are paramount, especially aspects of the local Policy Statement for which the jobholder is directly responsible.
- Implement systems of planning, reporting progress and inspection to ensure projects are implemented and completed to time, cost and quality.
- Ensure all staff are competent to carry out their work, including certification and licensing
- Maintain a system of surveillances to monitor and demonstrate compliance with current requirements in respect of system and occupational safety and performance, thereby furthering the Company’s objective to meet the quality system requirements.
- Ensure systems are in place for preparation and submission of work package plans and programme reports to clients for the timely implementation of agreed projects to required standards.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities
Business
- Accept and operate within budgets adhering to cost control processes to support target delivery in accordance with company procedures.
- Uphold and support established and agreed ways of working with customers (internal or external) to ensure ongoing feedback on team's performance.
- Support the maintenance of competency management records for all employees and subcontract staff.
- Ensure personal site diary maintained with daily events recorded appropriately.
Organisation
- Support and participate in the Infrastructure organisational structure, ensuring the right balance between and agency staff where applicable.
- Team Performance.
- Assist the Signalling Manger with the delivery of the team's performance using the Company's Signalling & Telecoms Competency Management Framework.
- Support the maintenance and updating of staff Competency Records within the Track Renewals Division.
Technical
- Undertake monitoring and surveillance of all installation and construction staff to a predetermined plan each year and provide reports in accordance with company procedures.
- Ensure that resources delivering signalling and telecommunication installation and construction activities comply with relevant specifications and standards
- Responsible for the supply of staff and supporting resources to the renewals team delivering high quality technical services and solutions, improving technical excellence within the Track Renewals Division.
Support
- Develop and deliver integrated services to clients.
- Lead the management of processes to optimise works delivery and also to provide consultative advice on signalling issues where applicable.
- Attendance at planning and progress meetings as required.
Safety & Quality
- Ensure by review and surveillance that all internal resources are competent to undertake their specified works in accordance with all Network Rail procedures where applicable.
- Manage the surveillance of external resources (subcontractors) are competent to undertake their specified works in accordance with all Network Rail procedures where applicable.
- Provide for review any signalling related quality & safety issues.
Person Specification
- Hold or working towards a Engineering Manager (Installation) IRSE License
- Hold PTS, COSS/IWA competencies
- Maintain & Collate the Evidence for the Project Health & Safety Folder
- Proven experience of team leadership and influencing staff
- Previous experience of Signalling & Telecoms installation and construction activities with a working knowledge of Network Rail standards
- Understanding of all other rail disciplines and interface management
